Brake Pad Life Check

Hi All,

I've got a driver's school coming up in a week and need to pass a tech inspection beforehand. I need at least 50% brake life left to pass; is there any way to check on the stock pads and rotors without taking the calipers off? I'm assuming I need to take a wheel off.

Once you have the wheel off, it's only another bolt or two to take the caliper off. Do it, and pull the pads out and actually examine them. Make sure the pads aren't cracking or separating from the backing plate. New pads are generally in the 10-12 32nds of an inch thickness range. I'd make sure to have at least 6/32" to be on the safe side with tech.
