View Full Version : Outback sway bars
Hey all you L and Gt bd owners, we all know that the outback rear sway bar is an excellent upgrade for our cars ,but I've also takent he leap and gotten the outback front sway bar. It is 20 MM instead of our normal 19mm foundi n L and gt models.
That 1 mm does alot to help if paired with the 18 mm outback rear sway bar. I found with my crazy driving that having the 18 rear and 19 front had made my bd very tail happy, which is fun but actually was slowing me down in some cases around corners. Now, with the 20 front and 18 rear that tail happiness is somewhat in check and the car feels even more solid.
I bought both my front and rear outback sway bars for a combined $30 at a u-pull-it junk yard. Really, if you compare that to buying aftermaket it is an absolute steal for sway bar upgrades.
Combined with my gr2's I feel like this has given me a decent streetable suspension that didn't cost me much at all.

good job - I am a big advocate of upgrading the front bar on McPherson strut Subaru cars, IMHO go even bigger up front on your next round of upgrades. A big front bar will do alot for keeping front end grip at respectable levels. A big rear bar sure if fun - I finally got my 20mm WRX rear bar setup to fit with a stock brighton front bar and WRX front strut and springs and its way to rear biased - fun - but not fast

I don't know if anyone has been following the thread on NASIOC, but Tribeca front swaybars seem to work on all N/A cars. It's a 25mm (some areas are about 22.5mm though, so it's not a "true" 25mm bar) front swaybar for $60.

I have been following it, and am putting the tribeca front bar on the leg wagon - WRX gets a COBB 25mm bar to replace the cusco 22 unit in the next round of mods

i love beating the expensive aftermarket by cross referencing parts from different vehicles and getting more performance. just makes feel all happy inside. still, 25mm for the front is a bit big don't ya think?

Hmm, I'm not really sure TBH. I remember when I still owned the Taurus, everyone got the 1st Gen SHO swaybars and those are 25mm front/26mm back.
If youre sticking to plain tarmac though, I think the 25mm will be fine...run a 24mm or so in the back and you're golden with stock springs on even crappy roads (like in NYC or Detroit).
Now in my case, I don't want the 25mm because I rallycross the car and I want to keep the articulation in the front as much as possible.

for tarmac 25mm is not too big at all - heck for a track car I say get a 27-29 adjustable front bar with a 24-28 adjustable bar in back if your not using 500 lb or higher springs
you do loose some independence from the suspension with such big bars and that is a negative (reason why gravel and big bars are a no no)
the tribeca bar requires differnet endlinks on a bugeye wrx and since I already have paid for endlinks for the same money as tribeca bar + STi style endlinks I can get the hollow cobb bar. so thats my reason for not putting the tribeca bar on the wrx as well. but the leg has the right endlinks already so woot

Yeah, you need that endlink that looks like a small pitchstop mount, not the ones that have the bolts facing the opposite direction.

I think when I am ready to pull the trigger on endlinks for the Legacy I will try the groupA parts
but since the tribeca bar and new endlinks are nice shiny parts that actually cost money (as opposed to free stock WRX stuff I have in the garage anyways) I will have to schmooze the wife and beg a bit. Ehh maybe for Christmas

The Group A parts aren't shiny, they are black. Plus I can put some grease on them and toss them in the dirt.
