EJ22E vs. EJ22T

I'm having a hard time coming up with anything other than basic performance and application specs on these engines, and I'm wondering just how different the turbo EJ22 is from the NA one in my '91 wagon. Did the European Legacy just have the same engine only with a factory turbo, or are there vast internal differences? Just wondering how much I can get out of this little guy without popping it.

You know that they have 1 st Legacy turbo here right? Correct me if I'm wrong someone but they ran 91-94 Legacy SS and touring wagon.

Yes, but the I'm under the impression the European ones were intercooled and significantly more powerful than the short turbo run we had here.

you can put a top mount IC from a wrx or a Forester IC (what I had) just have to plumb everything up and move the coolant tank.

Will it fit under the stock hood? I seem to remember hearing something about Volvo turbos and Saab intercoolers somewhere too...

I'm not sure about a Volvo IC but they use the Saabs.

This is a WRX on the left and a FXT on the right. With the WRX it is tight fit. You need to shorten the TB or bang in the firewall. No modification needed for the FXT.

Yes but, I don't have an EJ22T... that's kind of the point. I'm sorely lacking in "T".

You could piece together a turbo kit fairly cheap. Check our classifieds, there someone parting out a turbo kit he put together. Most of it will work for you.

i also believe jess (belldona) was selling a EJ22T, you could talk to her and ask if she still has it/still wants to sell it..
