AT Oil Light - 16 Flashes

Hey Guys,

I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy L AWD. I started the car up today to find the AT oil light was flashing...

It flashed 16 times repeatedly. Car drives fine and I would not know the difference otherwise.

I searched around on the internet and found what the code might mean, not sure if it applies to this year subaru or not. But i found something that says 16 flashes is a "2-4 brake duty solenoid" and the symptom is "Faulty shifting".

Can anybody confirm if this is the correct failure? I did not get any CEL. And if so, where is the brake duty solenoid and how can i replace it?

The 16 flashes signifies that there are codes stored in the TCU. It doesn't signify an actual code.

I don't know how to access TCU codes on a 96, on older models there is a way to get the codes by manipulating the shifter.
