Cold Weather Package

at least I think that is what it is called.

I am referring to the heated strip under the wiper blades available on the Legacy.

Does anyone have this option? My car (01 GT) does not, however the heated strip appears to be in the glass at the base of the windshield. I asked this question a long time ago and don't think I had any takers on responses but is it possible to add this option? Subaru seems to do plug and play kind of things with other options (tweeters for example).

When I purchased the car the interior 'wood' trim had a scratch. The replacement set I bought (I believe came from an Outback) included the switches for the left panel (fogs/cruise/heated glass). Of course when I replaced the panel I discovered the wires for the heated wipers behind the panel. Plugged the switch in but when pushed nothing happens. I checked the fuse panel hoping for a missing fuse or relay but no luck.

Any ideas? This would be very nice to have in the winter!

You would likely have to wire up some relays, a fuse, and get a new windshield with the heating elements in there.

Could be a real nice feature though.

Well, my point was the heating elements are in my windshield. I have a pic - I'll find it tonight.

yeah i have heated wipers and they help only in mild cases of blades sticking to the glass if temps even around 10s those things wouldnt do much they dont deice your wipers just melt ice between wiper and glass to free movement not that usefull as most ppl think. if you buy winter blades for winter you shouldnt have a problem anyway. now heated mirrors are nice :grin:

Ya, I use it to melt the snow that gets piled up when using the wipers in the morning / after the car has been sitting. Stops damage to the motors by allowing the wipers to go back to their resting position instead of getting jambed up by piled snow.

The best trick is to flick the mist function quickly. It'll pop the blades up to where they're resting just over the front window defroster. I find this works better to warm up the blades faster.

How i wish i had this option. Haynes manual turns up no electrical schematic for any of the 'cold weather' options. At least it sounds like I'm not missing much by not having the heated pads working.

yep thats the heater element now if you really want to take your dash apart and spent a lot of time tracing wires go for it but i dont know how much voltage and current that thing take.

if you really want to make that thing work first youll have to make sure element is not broken scaped scratched or anything like that if it looks good without damage i would try to unplug all wires from it and try to run small voltage thru it if it heats up then it works.

then if it works you should make sure that your switch has power and that it works. if all that works then youll have to find what is preventing your power from getting to the element.

i cant think of anything else for now but if i think of something ill let you know.
