Being sold via a big dealership here in Cleveland. Looking for an in-laws replacement to the 98 GT, which the rusted roof is getting bad... very bad.

I could use the 98 GT sedan for parts.

They are tough to find with low miles. I was gonna say hell no, but I saw 106K and changed my mind. I guess if everything checks out alright with previous maintenance history, it'd be worth it.
There's a 96 LSi wagon for sale here in CT for $4k and it has similar mileage, granted its been for sale for 6 months.

Unless all service was done and records could be shown(T-belts, see if the water pump was done, any gaskets done,transmission serviced, stock alternator?, etc.), I would stay plenty clear of it for that price. Between head gaskets and other things, you could wrap up another $2000 within the next year or so.

Nothing guarenteeing you will, but you could. Just something to keep in mind.

In this area that's not a bad price, I would try to know him down too. Most people ask a little more than the want expecting to get jawed down in price. I did that with my CRX and got $200 more than I was expecting.

I agree with the people above me. But really, check out the car in person.

I got mine '98 BD at 108k, and drop around $1-2k now running like new...well almost :eek:

It needs premium fuel....

Makes less power than the newer EJ25s too. I dunno, it's just a first run car to me, with HG issues. I'd probably stay away unless I was really attracted to the rarity.

A 96 requires premium? Power not an issue - the people who drive my old BD are cruisers.

As far as I know you can only use the 96 ECU for the 96. I read it somewhere but can't remember where.

yeah, the 96 is the black sheep of the GT trim. Being the first one it is also rare as I am sure you know... It seems like a decent price considering the mileage and the fact that it is extremly hard to find one of that year in good shape.

When I looked at it, the CEL was on. During the test drive, when I went to accelerate from a stop, the car had a slight hesitation, a faint thud, then accelerated slowly. Was fine after that. Dealer called back the next day and said it was the O2 sensor that caused the CEL and the hesitation. Said they would fix it free of charge and worked out a decent price for me, but I'm hoping it's ONLY an O2 sensor because I'm liking this car more and more. Any thoughts?

Didn't look at it, but on Craigslist the price dropped below $4000. Make sure you don't pay that much.

If it's the O2 sensor that makes sense - just be sure make them show you the old O2 sensor before you buy. Get a code reader too to make sure there's nothing stored in memory... an ECU reset will wipe the code, even if the problem part is still there.

Bought my 99 Limited LGT for $5500 with brand new tires.. so.. i dunno about a 96 for that much. My first Limited LGT i bought for $3200 with new tires, and 152k miles... hmm... oh.. and its auto-tragic, which means the value should also be less than the 'rare' 5 speeds which i purchased on both occasions.

I talked them down to $3000 but I think I'll try my luck and see if they'll go lower. Seemed really eager to pass it off since it's end of the month and it's been there for a while. The paint job wasn't as shiny as it looked in the photos nor did they show the two rust spots above the rear wheels (half-dollar sized). Anyways, this will be my secondary vehicle so I don't mind using premium as long as I can squeeze about 300 miles off a full tank. Other than that, I'm almost sold on the car. Wish me luck!
