So, my dad's gettin some actual truck tires for his truck. :lol: That got me thinking, since I take my car up in the hills so often, why not get a set of truck tires for my Legacy? I take my car up in the hills often enough, and some AT tires would give me better traction, and with a taller tire, better ground clearance.

Thoughts? I'm pretty sure they'll rub like crazy, but if I can go up in the hills and not have to worry about traction or punctures as much, it would be worth it.

they'll give significantly more road noise, and they'll be quite alot more unresponsive, but why stop there?

I could care less about road noise, or responsiveness. I do care more about being able to not get stuck when on logging roads. :cool: Plus, with some better tires, I could go places I currently cannot.

now, the plan is to get a set of 15" wheels and buy a set of AT tires. throw the AT tires/wheels on for Winter, put my WRX wheels with summer tires back on for Spring, Summer, and Fall.

During the summer, if I want to go up in the hills, all it would require would be throwin on a different set of wheels. Not gonna do anything extreme, I just want more peace of mind when on logging roads. Too afraid of punctures, tread damage, and other problems with my WRX wheels and performance summer tires. Plus, it would be nice to have real traction when it gets muddy.

Watch out, I'll be back a few weeks from now with a 6" lift kit on my GT. :lol:

My vote is either BFGoodrich AT KO's or the Goodyear MTX's. The goodyears are a mud tire, but these were the tires of choice among the toyota offroad enthusiasts, and they are very common on jeeps and other trucks as well.

I'm limited in tire choices by size. I could throw some 235 75R16 tires on, and they would rub like a kitty in heat. Trying to limit size to 215 65r16, that way I can drive without rubbing.

215/65/16's will fit with outback struts to lift it up.

i ran general grabber at2's on my legacy with VERY minimal rubbing (only at full lock)

if you run 15's though, you can go more aggressive than an all terrain

I'm probably gonna grab a set of 15"s. And probably going to grab some Outback suspension goodies, I want more ground clearance. :twisted:

I will probably grab a complete suspension from a BH outback. Want to update to run newer suspension components anyway, so Multilink rear it's gonna have to be. :-(

You're going to try fitting a multi-link rear suspension to a car that is all strut?

No, I meant BH. it IS possible to do, just takes time and work, and lots of parts.

Though, you're all right, I should probably grab a BG suspension instead of a BH outback suspension. I keep forgetting I'm on a budget. If I DIDN'T have a budget, I'd say fuck all terrain tires, lift the damn thing and put Mattracks on it. :lol:

why not buy a few sets of rally tires used from rally teams.

even less ideal for daily use, but would do those logging roads well.

I was planning on going up to PIR and buy some, but PIR is closed...

rally tires are pretty soft though... you'll chew them up quickly if you run them on any kind of pavement

I've got a set of 15" Outback wheels (ironically from a 1998 Outback) that i'm gettin in the next few weeks.

I think I'll do AT tires simply because I'm not planning on hauling too much ass while off road, I want more ground clearance, and I'll probably toss 'em on and run with them for a few days, or maybe a week or two.

I might just get a set of snow tires that are rather oversized. I'll run them during the winter, and then next summer, get a new set of summer tires for my WRX wheels.
