Someone on here changed out the gauge cluster with one that had a tach.

You're most likely missing a tach, power windows, power locks, anti-lock brakes, you have a 14mm rear sway bar, and a 19mm front sway bar, and you have 14 inch wheels. It should be all wheel drive, as I believe FWD was phased out in 1995, but you can check that.
cvc7chris
10-19-2007, 10:30 PM
yep
no power doors
no power windows
no tach
14 caps
idk about the sway bars
i haven't got it yet
but i drove it for about an hour and it handles GREAT!!!
wouldn't adding a tach be much easier?
like on the side of the dash ?
is it hard to wire them or hook them up or whatever?
Plays_with_Toys
10-19-2007, 11:08 PM
it'd look nicer plugging in a new dash. Considering that way more L, LS, GT and outbacks were sold than brightons, sourcing cluster shouldn't be too hard.
Possibly drums in the rear as well...
Sarra
10-19-2007, 11:43 PM
Put some dubs on it.
And yeah, an aftermarket tach shouldn't be a big deal. I'm gonna go aftermarket tach and speedo for my GL/Loyale. Too hard to read the stupid digital in the sun, too dim. It's too bright at night, too, stupid thing.

Actually, no, they just took a tachometer out of a junkyard car cluster and put it in theirs. It's extremely easy to do. All of the wiring is already back there.
cvc7chris
10-20-2007, 12:06 PM
so the wiring from a tach on a cluster is allready on the back of my brighton edition cluter?
if it is
i might do that
but i still wanna know if it's hard to put a Tach on like one on the side
i always thought they looked cool
and those dubs
YEAH
i saw a white legacy on black w/ chrome lip and it looked Awesome
idk this stuff takes time

It would definitely be 100% easier to install the stock tach instead of putting one on the side which would require wiring, mounting, etc etc
cvc7chris
10-20-2007, 12:45 PM
well i'll see if i can find any in a local junkyard but anyone know if theres any on ebay ?
Sarra
10-20-2007, 02:54 PM
I avoid ebay.
Put WRX wheels on it and leave it at that. WRX wheels > * Aftermarket wheels would be too gaudy on a Brighton, even on a LSI or GT. On a GT, you might get away with STI wheels or SSR comps or Gram Lights...
Honestly, a Brighton isn't a car that would really be worthy of serious money. Add a tach, do a few upgrades, but please, don't dump a bunch of money into it. :-( It's your car though, do what you want.
cvc7chris
10-20-2007, 03:15 PM
yeah
why brighton sucks?
i mean it's only got like 96k
my honda has 219k and it's still Pulling HARD!!!
i always wanted black rims with chrome lip
or some Chrome Rims
Reason
10-20-2007, 03:29 PM
It doesn't suck it just has less options, and it's lighter. It's a good base to start on, pick your mods wisely. We say switch the tach with a stock unit you will notice that the Subaru community is different from the Honda community.
There's also nothing wrong with eBay. I found lots of cool parts on there. I have a trade rating of 110 of buying and selling and had no problems.
Brightons are actually better for power modifications in the sense that they are lighter.
Get a light weight crank, I've seen the most gains from that. Also, get an outback sway bar set.
At least he doesn't have a 4EAT *cough* unlike some of you *cough*.
StatGSR
10-20-2007, 04:35 PM
^ u mean crank pully
but anyway, i have a brighton as well, i have done the tach swap, it is very simple, just try to buy one fron 95-97 because the facing will be black and match the rest of the gauges later ones are grey, the needle colors also changed from white to red so u will probably want to get one that matches the rest, i picked up mine off ebay, it was a good 20 bux cheaper than getting it at my local junk yard, i think i spent just under 30 bux. in the diy forum there is a "brighton tach" or similar thread that covers this and some other things, so please dont buy some ugly 5 inch dash mounted tach. the brighton also only comes with front speakers, but they are wired for the rears if u want to upgrade those. also
brighton model comes with rear drum brakes.
and as for making it blue, thats what im working on right now so your not allowed to...
Edit, tach link..

Nope, just light weight crank and alt pulley and soon to be a power steering pulley. You could always weld the alt pulley on the crank pulley. You would need to find someone who welds aluminum.

OH HELL NO!!!! A few years ago, it was 115F with 70% humidity! 34 people died from the heat.
It has to do with pulley size. I'd need a larger one, actually. Welding a larger pulley onto the crank pulley would probably be the best route to go.
the SC is gonna need it's own pulley and belt in this application. I'm going to try to go with a wider belt too.

That's how most people on forums are, very opinionated. But it comes down to if you can handle criticism. It happens everywhere. Someone don't like the way you mod your car fuck em, they aren't driving it. But you are posting on a public forum asking questions and opinions, boy are you going to get it no matter where it is. Do what you want to your car, nobody is stopping you, just be prepared to take the bad with the good when people offer advice

Not hating.
Accords are fine. They move, they get good milage, they just aren't rally cars (and really, neither are our Legacies, with a few exceptions).
I guess it's more along the lines of "Don't dump $10,000 into a car that's only worth $1000" type of thing.
Reason

Speaking of hating I just got rid of my 91 CB7, I also a member of the CB7 forums.
EDIT: Let me add to this. I been on Many Honda forums for my Accord and my CRX. I also on a Neon forum and MANY Subaru forums. I can tell you this now the Honda and Neon forum are more alike than like a Subaru forum. Activities and how a majority of the cars are put together are so much different. There's no hating, people just do different things.

I'm not sure how "LIVE" got to be a slang for like, but is that what you mean?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a brighton. It's lighter, and honestly and extremely good car for the money. You get AWD, 5MT, all the really good stuff without some of the unnecessary bells & whistles. A little paint and the car can look really good (as Huffer demonstrated).
cvc7chris
10-21-2007, 02:18 PM
Live means to me like More than i like..like something NICE!!! but yeah brighton seems to be aiight manual windows and locks..kinda getting tired of automatic windows and locks and them fucking up on my honda...and it's lighter like ya said and for $1400 bucks..i got $500 and he told me to get him $1000 and he'll give it to me..because he needs a van for his Wife (my aunt) because their baby is on the way and they won't fit in a subi..plus i mean that gives me time to sell my accord...
but Tint and rims is what im looking for and audio the paint is good on it but it's just that he NEVER washes it because me and my uncle work on drywall sometimes and we never have time to wash our cars lol

As you might have gathered, this forum is real nitpicky on grammar and such. Because we cater to an international crowd, and with a pretty broad wealth of knowledge on the american legacies, and growing knowledge on overseas models, I'd like to think any person could jump on here find the information they want and walk away trusting it. That would include any age individual who might just google "subaru outback overheating" or something like that and stumble upon our site. Using slang and bad grammar (which a growing number of working adults are becoming guilty of) makes us and the information we post sound less credible.
So here's what you should do. In this order:
sand your headlights down and clear the glazing off. Work all the way up to 2000 grit. Check the DIY section.
wheels (look for OEM subaru wheels, WRX owners are very quick to get rid of their wheels and they look really good on our cars. Especially the 7 spoke 06/07 model wheels). Make sure you put some decent rubber on the tires, no $30 walmart tires. Remember, any mod done to your car ain't going to do a thing if you can't keep the car on the road.
snorkusectomy. Again check the DIY. It's pulling the air resonator box out of the fender. No gains except a smile on your face from the new sound. It's free, so why not?
outback rear sway bar (any 1996 to 1999 subaru outback legacy sway bar will do, look in the DIY section for a how to) This really tightens up the feel of the car, but, it also changes the natural understeering tendency of the car towards oversteer. Without good tires, you can put yourself into some bad situations if the car goes around on you.
lightweight crank pulley. It's a great feel good mod. Smooths out the car and especially first gear. Make sure you torque down with a torque wrench, and don't overtorque or you'll crack your crank seal.
tint, get a good tint shop. Subaru's have frameless windows, so you'll be able to see the edge of your tint every time you open the door.
There you go, a good start. From there just cruise the DIY's and look at the member's galleries, get some ideas. I'll tell you an exhaust on a subaru is a huge draw, but you as a wagon owner have to be careful. You need a much longer tip than most sedan owners and because of the hatch, you can suffer drone and reverberation alot easier. The exhaust is something you'll want to look into so you don't respend money down the road.

what do front and rear Sway bars do ? i mean as improvement ?
is it really unnoticeable
StatGSR
10-21-2007, 09:50 PM
^ they help control chassis roll. upgrading your rear sway bar will also help get rid of some of the cars under steer.
Plays_with_Toys
10-21-2007, 11:03 PM
is it really unnoticeable
very. The car will be much less prone to body roll and sway. If you can figure it out, you can also prompt the rear end to swing out while cornering. It's probably one of the best and cheapest upgrades to the car.
Wiscon_Mark
10-22-2007, 01:25 AM
Behind Tires, front & rear swaybars are the best bang for the buck suspension modifications you can do, IMO. I haven't gotten to the front yet, but the rear was amazing...

snorkusectomy. Again check the DIY. It's pulling the air resonator box out of the fender. No gains except a smile on your face from the new sound. It's free, so why not?
is that like where it sucks air into the air intake? from the fender?
what sound does it make ? or what ?
and i have a question about thoes Intakes for Subarus
there popular i forgot the name...i'll look it up
Wiscon_Mark
10-22-2007, 01:27 AM
With the stock setup, the intake sucks from behind the headlight. Not a bad location, takes mostly cold air, but gets some warm engine air. Then it goes into the fender, and returns back into the engine bay in the air box. It doesn't just go from one hole to another (look in your engine bay to see what I'm talking about), it dips down into this really big box that is there for the purpose of sound deadening the intake noise.
cvc7chris
10-22-2007, 01:32 AM
yeah it dips down and then this other plastic comes up so by removing that ? what's the use? or purpose? BTW i found the INTAKE..it's called Weapon R Dragon it's a popular one on Ebay and i saw it on here b4 so i am guessing it's popular idk
Wiscon_Mark
10-22-2007, 01:34 AM
Some people like the Weapon R, some people don't.
The purpose would be to free things up just a bit (not really noticable gains) and make the intake sound agressive.

WTF????? Dude the reason why the car pulls because it's a TSi and it's a turbo. It doesn't pull because it sounds good. You getting a product that sounds like apart that gives a car power is going to do only one thing, make you look foolish.

Wow, welcome to the forums. You do have a lot of energy. The intake is really up to the owner--it doesn't do much, but sounds nice. But definitely pull the "snorkus" out of your fender.
Read some of the easy, cheap, or free modifications in the Do it Yourself sections. Sometimes that's the stuff that will really let you enjoy the car.
As for the fake blow-off valve, you probably don't want to do that. Legacies aren't especially fast, so it'll just make you feel worse when a soccer mom in a V6 camry easily passes you. By 'not fast'--my 2.2L legacy sedan with the auto transmission pulled an 18.046 1/4 mile time. THAT is slooooow.

At this point, a lot of your questions can be answered just by reading, so I'd ask you to poke around for now, and come back with specific questions if you need to. If they relate to the topic that you're looking at, feel free to post in that topic.
