OK well on Friday i got my car looked at and finally i got my boggin fixed. Was awsome i could actually drive my legacy like i wanted. I also just got my license back and got insurance so i was verry happy. Well last night while me and my friends where driving around...long story short i blew my head gasket. I didnt know until i got back to friends and saw all this stuff leaking. Looked inside my coolant reservoir and there is green on one side and black on the other. THen it just got all dirty black kinda. My friend said i could fix it in about a week with his help. Soooo can i do this job in my garage? Im going to UTI after winter and 2 of my friends are starting this tuesday, the guy that is gonna help me is a full time mechanic and he is going to help us through it all. I want to learn and time is not a problem at this point so what do you guys think?
Thanks -Nick

I remember when i did mine with a guy at work. It took us the whole weekend.

We started saturday around 3PM and work til midnight. Then sunday, 9AM to about 5:30ish. Of course, he had all the tools.

Good luck to ya

Thanks for the input. I have started but i have one ? Is there any way my coolant could have overheated and burned, because when i pulled my dipstick out the oil looked clean. In my coolant tank there is like a thick black residue all over the walls of it and its pretty black but still some green when i pored it out. Im just not sure if its oil but im pretty sure it is.
Thanks -Nick

It happened to mine when the headgasket kick in. It will start to foam and you'll see a milky substance in your reservoir.

what do you mean by milky, do you mean thick. Miine is black, mixed with green and it is thick. I just need to know if my headgasket is blown or did my coolant overheat so i can start taking it apart. Thanks for the help Nick

Yes, its white and milky like. Also that black mixed with mildew like substance.

so has your engine temp gauge overheat? and where is the leak from? seeping from the heads? smoke out of the exhaust?

It was over te h and it never went down. Cant see any leaks yet just mostly from the coolant tank and from the raidiator.

check your radiator, make sure its not busted...or leaking coolant from somewhere.

How do i get the gas to not pump if i need to turn the power on real quick. I heard i can take out a fuse, will i still need a bottle to catch some gas and is this possible? Also what gasket set or head gaskets should i get. I was thinking about the feldco (i think that was it) head gaskets because you dont need to torque them down? Has anyone heard of this? Thanks -Nick
