HI Guys new guy here. Just got a 98 GT and I purchased a SRI from Cosmo Racing. After I installed it, my check engine light went on. It refers to my MAP and something else. Do I have a bad MAP or is it just because of the intake?
THANKS

Did you rest the ECU after you installed the intake??

You don't have a MAP sensor in your 98 GT. You have a MAF sensor.
What was the actual code that showed when you had it diagnosed?

I didn't reset the ECU. I thought that that sounded wrong, I thought it was a MAF and not a MAP. The guy at Auto Zone called it a MAP. How do I reset the ECU the Auto Zone guy said just unplug the negative cable out of the battery for a minute and then replug it back. I'll see if I can go back today and I'll write down the code.

Okay I just unplugged the (-) cable from my battery and plugged it back in and the CHECK ENGINE light is still ON. Any suggestions ? Could I have ruined my MAF ? some how? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS.

What was the actually code? and did you hook up all the vacuum lines?

I have to go back to get the code. I connect all of the vacuum lines, but I had a hard time with the thick line that connects near the MAF. I just checked and that thicker line broke near the intake pipe. I got to see if I can get a new hose and get the codes from Auto Zone tomorrow or some time this weekend.

How long did you leave it unplugged? 5 mins ain't going to do it. Leave it for at least an hour, I usually do it over night but whatever.

Won't that drain my battery ? If I leave all night?

You do it every night when you aren't driving. Your system doesn't magically charge it's self over night lol. Unplug it for the night, hook it back up in the morning and go for a ride, let us know how you made out.

if that host is broke that's your problem. fix the hose and then clear the codes with a code scanner, it takes 30 seconds and is the right way to do it. On some cars leaving the battery off will clear the codes but many newer cars store them in nvram and therefore they will be stored forever until they are cleared. Pretty sure your car isn't like that, I have a scanner, so I never try the battery thing.

A stored code isn't going to hurt anything. If you have a scan tool or access to one yea clear it. If not don't worry about it. I had many stored codes, I erased them when I had access to a scanner.

I didn't do that battery reset method yet. It's been raining here in CT. I was thinking of getting the Scan Gauge II by Linear Logic (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=4511). I saw the review that Huffer did and it sounded like an awesome little tool.
Hopefully it will stop raining soon so I can try to reset the ECU through the battery method.
EDIT:
I was just reading through the electrical thread and someone else had a problem with resetting their ECU and sharky nrk said that all you have to do is disconnect the (-)Negative cable from battery and tap the brakes. The car in question in that thread was a BE, but will that trick work on a BD?

Yes, Just pump ur brakes a few times and wait about 10-15min i think. It worked for me, but i think i ended up having it off for longer.

Are you really that nervous letting the car sit overnight with the negative disconnected? I really don't think 15 mins will do it but if it works thats great.

Just leave it unplugged overnight. Rain won't affect it because the hood will be closed.
Sheesh.

Wait am i wrong? I thought pumping your brakes made it so u dont have to wait so long?

All that does is dissipate the electricity from the system quicker. So yes, it does work.
But the original poster keeps asking questions like they're scared to do it.

It's not that I'm scared. I don't want to go out in the rain(I have cold) and I don't have much time in my hands, between work(8:30A-5:00P) and babysitting my little Niece(5:00P-?). On top of that I have to hide everything that I do to my car from my dad. He doesn't like to see me under the hood of my cars. The only think He lets me do is check the oil. I appreciate everyones input and no I haven't gotten around to trying again to reset my ECU, but I'll post when I do.
(Sorry to be a pain in the 455)

Well, if it's your car, your Dad doesn't have much ground to stand on, does he?
15 minutes will definitely work. Just disconnect the battery, pump the brakes to dissipate any electrical flow in the system, and reconnect it in 15 minutes. It'll reset.

At my house he does. It's only because I hydro locked my 94 Integra with a CAI. It forgot I had a CIA and I ran over a HUGE puddle of water, it immediately stalled and I try to start it back up and since water doesn't compress it blew a hole in the head.
Ever since that He annoys that hell out of me and keeps bringing the integra back up and it never ends if I put any after market parts on my cars. I have a SRI that I told him that came with the car.
I'm going to try to reset the ECU tonight.

Trust me i know all about a mean DAD, but you gotta be sneaky. Your smarter than him. You gotta have some time off or when u hang out with ur friends. Do it at a friends house, disconnect ur battery, pump your brakes, go chill and when you come back, WALAAA DONE

I was going to do that today, but I ended up going home early. I know exactly what you mean by got to a friends house to do work. I did that for the cat-back and headers on my Talon(Don't have it any more), the Intake, Muffler, and Headers on my Prelude( IT Currently for Sale) and the Intake on the Legacy. I think I'm going to go disconnect the (-) cable on my battery RIGHT NOW. Wish me luck. SNAKE OUT. :smt027

..wow.. all this for a ECU reset? I wonder what's gonna happen if you need to change say.. your shifter!

YAY! NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THANK YOU EVERYONE. As far as the shifter someone else has a long shifter thread I'll just go with the KartyBoy Short Throw Shifter ^_^.

I agree, we have a few like this right now.

Glad it worked out for you. Though about disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu... I disconnected my battery to switch out the head unit and some speakers and after reconnecting it, my hazzards were constantly on.
Apparently if you have the subaru keyless entry system, disconnecting the battery for a long amount of time can trip a pseudo alarm system. If this happens just click lock a few time on your doors and remote to reset the system.
