Heater core

Are subarus known for blowin heater cores? Is there a time or mileage to expect this. My mechanic just had his go without warning, he has an 02 BH Ltd with around 120,000km. Core was around $300 and 5-8 hours to change out. Should i start saving $ :-?

well they're just like a small radiator...you never know untill it leaks.

I never seen a problem with heater core, just keep your coolant flushed every two years and you should be ok.
