I am watching SpeedTV right now (Two guys' garage) and there was an advertisement for a tornado, one of the intake air vortex things. Now, I thought these were complete bunk, so why are they advertising it???

Because online automobile techs that flip burgers for a living know everything. So many people told me its garbage, I plan on finding out myself. Buy it, try it, if it don't work you are out $60 oh well.

Is it really $60??? Dang. That's alot of green for such a small thing. Maybe we can get the guys to slip one into the little K&N filter box display (the one with the ball) and see how it affects the air flow.

I play with that K&N thing everytime I am at the parts store....I think it makes them mad. Did you know there is a valve on the back to adjust airflow. Shhhhh...you didn't hear it from me but you can make the ball go to the top with the OEM filter.

It will restrict it, no doubt.
Reason, it won't do any harm (except for your power and your mileage) but it doesn't make any sense that it would do any good...There isn't nearly enough pull in a naturally aspirated engine to make it move effectively, and if you think about it, this "passive turbo" is even less effective than an electric supercharger because it doesn't create any boost at all....

the idea is that it will improve the venturi effect.
It doesnt matter if it does that though since the intake manifold will ruin the effect, there is no restriction there anyway.
If you want to do something to your intake piping, throw on a bc/bf pipe. Your throttle response will suffer in exchange for better flow.

no kiddin there's a way to adjust the airflow on the back of the K&N show off thingy. i've sold many K&Ns using that display.
i tried to order a fram air hog, but it was a special order and i still couldn't get one to compare 1 for one.

I'm wondering if those air hogs are any good....
They're almost as expensive as the K&Ns (like 45 bucks) so they'd have to be good to be worth it...

But you can't wash the airhog off and reuse it.
Notice they don't let you test the K&N filter with oil on it. Don't you think the oil restricts some airflow?

Pretty sure you can....
Yeah, the oil will restrict, but you're not supposed to use a lot, and it should soak in so it wouldn't be too much....

Pretty sure the airhogs are a longer life disposable filter....they sell them at wal-mart. They don't sell K&N's there...

They sell K&N at our Walmart, and Fram Airhogs (rated at 250,000 miles, and it says they're cleanable) at the hardware chain up here....

Cleanable as in "wash it off" or cleanjable as in "spray it with an airhose"

Thats funny....I never get oil on my hands when I am changing the filter out on the display at the parts store.

Uhhh... if you're getting oil all over your hands when you oil the filter, your putting too much on. Seriously, one or two passes of the spritzer over the ruffles is all you want. It will absorb into the pockets of the gauze material.

But you are missing the point. When I play with the display at the parts store THE FILTER IS BONE DRY! They are not portraying it in it's "ready" phase. I'm not knocking K&N filter here as I had one in my jeep and it was awesome. I'm just saying if you are going to advertise something on TV or in person... come with it.
I'm not an idiot and I'm probably older than most on this board. I know cars. I know trucks..and I even know some boats. Of something has oil on it...and I don't give a sheeot how much oil...it will feel greasy to the touch. Cat litter holds oil but I bet it would still feel greasy when it contains oil.
Just use comon sense here people.
If it looks too good to be true....
I can blow the dust out of the filter for my home A/C...but would you really want to reuse it? My window A/C unit has a "washable" filter and I can actually see the dirt and dust going down the drain so I know it's gone. I can use degreaser on it if I needed too... but blowing it out would take a long damn time and not yeild the best results.
If you want K&N performance and a big ol' warranty. Get K&N....and oil it.

all normal of the shelf K&Ns are pre oiled. ours in our display is oiled, cause i'm the oned that got greased taking out of the wrapping... which we were instructed my the kit to take PN#33-xxx OFF THE SHELF.. i thought it was quite a rip off.

I knew where he worked too..... the filter at my local store is BONE DRY. I know what the oil smells like and feels like and there is none on it. How misleading.

Lol, the hyundai/subie dealer has a display and the K&N is nasty and dusty and just looks bad (almost black through and through), and the other filter looks new. It still pulls more air.

I was in a different advance autoparts today and was playing with their K&N display when it hit me to check the filter...I pulled it out and sure enough it had oil residue on the back.
I wonder why the one store's didn't have oil? Maybe it was a fluke and got sent un-oiled?????
