Hey I went and skipped this thread and after 20 posts I saw that I might want to introduce myself.

Name - ANT
I'm new to subaru's. I've always wanted a GC and I tried over 5 times and got screwed and never got it, but I always had my eyes on the 2.5GT. I bought my 98 GT a week ago. Love the way it handles. A little weird at first because I never drove a AWD car before. I really like SLI. Everyone seems pretty cool even when I ask some dumb questions.

Mods (so far)
Cosmo Racing SRI
JDM One Piece Black Housing HeadLights
JDM Aero Guards
JDM RED and WHITE Tail lights
JDM Amber Side Markers
JDM Short Shift Linkage
JDM Green L7 Grill

I am looking into getting:

Borla Knock off headers
Stromung 2.25 Cat-Back Exhaust
Cusco Front and Read Struts
Tein Coilovers
Brembo Cross-Drilled Brake Rotors
SS Brake Lines
Paint my GT Wheels and all of my badges GOLD

I think that's it.

What do you guys think?

Welcome. Check out the "DIY" section--there's lots of cool, rewarding, cheap stuff to do in there.

I know I took a quick look at the DIY thread and it's full of cool stuff. I want to try that custom subaru badge, but I want gold stars and green background to match the color of my car.

I haven't tried to sand through the silver stars on the badge before, just sanded the background. I got cocky and used a dremel this time...ended up putting too much heat into the plastic and putting hairline fractures in one corner of the badge. :-(

Waitaminute - another green 98 gt owner? SWEET! Welcome!

Best 1st repair or major mod I would recommend would be to take care of your car's headgaskets as soon as you have time and money. They are the only real problem on our cars.

Otherwise, you picked a great-looking ride... it has some of the good handling traits of the Impreza (GC chassis) of the same year, but you can bring more of your friends along for the ride. Plus, parts from the Impreza, Forester, Legacy, swap almost completely (i.e. sometimes no work is required). Kinda like working with Lego pieces

God bless you. Rock on! Post a pic up in the Member's Rides section!

How much is it to do the headgasket? I'm waiting for a nice day for me to go out and take pictures of my GT. I think it's going to take a little while. It's cold(I hate the cold).

Don't sand, steal your old lady's nail polish remover. :) Takes a little time, but it'll dissolve the background and the silver on the stars.....

Will it fog up the plastic?

Well, mine was already pretty well "sandblasted" from 150,000 miles of driving, but I didn't notice any change in the plastic itself when I did it. Unfortunately, I broke mine before I got it put back on, and haven't gotten a replacement, so I don't have any pics.

Headgasket replacement is not cheap, but you can take care of this two ways:

1. You can get a shop to do the fix for you. You'll probably be looking at $800 and up depending on hours, parts, and labor.

2. You can do it yourself (or with appropriate help). The head gaskets themselves are CHEAP (like maybe between the $25 to $50 mark each). The royal pain is actually getting to the headgasket part to replace them. I think there is a how-to guide on here or another forum on how to do this. It takes several hours to do this.

Sorry about the delay in reply. Later!

I finally took some pictures of my GT. I have them posted in the member rides I thread.

All comments are appreciated.
