Crappy weekend, BK/BD>BE/BH

Saturday, my two friends and I headed several hours north, to my friend's mom's house for the weekend. We were at a PetCo, and my friend's husband locked my car keys in the car.

After being pissed for like 2 seconds, I decided to just break into my car, using a coat hanger.

When I had my BE, I locked the keys in it on occasion, and it only took me 3 seconds and a coat hanger to unlock the entire car, grab the keys, and go. The window pulled away from the molding very easily, and the molding itself was rather weak. I used a coat hanger to get a pregnant friend's keys out of her BH outback, that car had the keys locked in the car while it was running even. Same deal, took 3 seconds.

I couldn't do it with the BK. I spent 7 minutes, in a parking lot, with a coat hanger, while the car alarm was going crazy, trying to get my car open. My friend couldn't do it either. Keep in mind, I wasn't trying to save my tint, or my windows, or my molding. I was doing everything I could to get this done.

I called AAA. It took an hour, and the guy showed up with the proper tools. No slim jim, a flexible metal ribbon with a rubber nub on the end. It took this locksmith 10 minutes to get it unlocked. He even commented to me how hard it was to get the darn thing in there. He even gave up on using a hard plastic shim between the window and the frame, it was bending the shim.

What is the deal here? My window, when rolled up all the way, fits nicely under a lip on bottom of the roof. You cannot pull the window away from the body of the car! On my BE and my mom's BH, it is very easy to pull the window out from the car. On my BK, it feels like the glass will break before it is pulled out sufficiently for you to be able to use a piece of wire or something similar to get into the car.

What gives? And why did Subaru change this on the newer cars?

You can pop that glass pretty easily, thats the one thing I don't like about the 2nd gen. But I really like frame less doors. You won't open one of those with a slim jim. Take apart your door won day and you'll know why.

My brother opened my BD with a slim jim. Of course, the locks never did work properly after that.

well i have a thing with locking my keys in the car the day i get it. whne i bought my BD i locked key in the car on the way home from dealership luckily i didnt clse the door all the way and was able to open it with just a thing long piece of some bush growing at the gas station, when i went to buy my BE i locked the keys right after i test drove it and the car was runnin took dealer like 15 min to open it. i also managed to lock keys in the BD like twice more and never had a problem coathanger did the trick in like 5 min.

.... why are you all stepping out of the car with out the keys? Rule of thumb, always stay on the same side of the door as your keys. If I hop out and don't take the keys I'll keep the door open or roll the window down. I've never once locked myself out of any car I've owned.

Thats weird, i couldnt even lock my keys in my car even if i tried, if i lock the door while it is open then close it, every lock except the trunk pops back up.

Locked my keys in my BD WHILE it was running once.. well.. i dont know HOW THE HELL that happened.. i swear.. the car was mad at me. Went to grab something at my door real quick and the damn thing shut its door on me!


But the cops opened it up in about 10 seconds no problem with the inflatable wedge..bout the only cool thing they've ever done for me.

I left my stupid friend in the car with the keys, but he locked the car and then shut the door. That right there set the alarm off.

Yeah, I'm not leaving him alone in my car anymore, he can just walk on his broken ankle from now on.

that was my question as well. i've done it ON PURPOSE before to prove to my wife that i can't lock my keys in the car.

Yea, i know what that is--you have press the button on the door to lock the door. Then, hold the door handle in the "up" posision as you close it. The doors should lock.

My car has a funky alarm setup. If you lock the doors, and shut the driver's door, it just sets the alarm off. :( The ONLY way to get in the car once it's locked is to use the remote. And mine suck.

Yep, that's how I do it.

I'd use the key to lock the door, but in winter, I don't like bent keys. They don't open it back up so well.
