Annoying exhaust leak

I drove up to Eugene with some friends to look for housing for them. Ended up not finding anything, except on the way back, somewhere, I got a exhaust leak.

The thing is, I can't find where it's leaking from. I can hear it... Oh, and during normal driving, it makes a "whoooo" sound, kinda like a turbo, but not, that matches the RPM the motor is running.

What is the easies way to find where the leak is?

On a positive note, I did fix my bogging and crappy gas milage problem with a new fuel filter. I got gasoline everywhere, but hey, it was worth $20 and 15 minutes. :wink:

On a cold morning, on startup, you should be able to see white vapor for a few seconds. You can also try a water spray bottle and mist up the exhaust to see where the vapor blows away from.

I usually go with having an assistant put their foot over the end of the exhaust pipe and checking for leaks that way. The extra backpressure will make it more obvious where the leak is.

I'm thinkin that too, except i'm going to have the assistant use a potato. :lol:

I'm starting to wonder if this might be the symptom of something else. Actually wondering if my cat is clogged.

I see some deposits around the gasket between the block and the header on the left side. I'm relatively sure that's where it's coming from. I'll have to buy a new set of gaskets and drop the exhaust to see what's going on.
