Hi everyone. I am getting itchy about doing some mod's to my car. I thought a good place to start was with a short ram intake.
I was looking for some input on engine mod's. What should I do next? I see some nice header/uppipe set ups. I was also wondering how well the piggyback chips work on these cars. Xcelleration.com sells a stage one with a header, intake, piggyback chip, boost controller (already have that), and a few other do-dads. One thing they call a "fuel cut defender" WTF is that?
Any input would be helpfull. I'm looking for another 40-50 ponys or so.

I imagine the fuel cut defender is for chips that have fuel cut off at like 112 mph, it unengineers that cut off point so you can go as fast as the gears let you.
As for bolt on power, I've heard a header and exhaust can go a long way.

If it were me I would start with suspension and handling then move on to performance. I nknow it boring but speed is nothing without control to steal a phrase.

Stole the words right out of my mouth.

I had a feeling that was what your advise was going to be. The car is driven by my wife too, and if I do anything to drgrade ride quality she's gonna freak on me. Coming from a crude SRT4, the handling from this car is such a step up, I only plan on some adjustable sway bars. The AWD is incredible at transitioning from understeer to a nice 4 wheel drift using the throttle. In fact, it's downright thrilling at times. (My nine year old daughter loves it, she laughs her butt off....typical kid, no fear whatsoever, LOL) I am pretty content with the handling except for some body roll and those crappy all season tires that howl like a wolf in heat.
What would you recomend for sway bars? I had looked into Progress units, but have not made a decision. I don't want to make the mistake I made lsat time...( Helwig bars on my truck, the links are constantly snapping )
Thanks, Paul

1st we need to know what you are driving.
I have an IPD sway on the rear of my BE coupled with White Line ALK. The handling is great. I like you have the same wife thing to deal with. The other day she actually commented on how much better the car handles. you wouldn't be the crap she gave me on the anti-lift kit. "I didn't know you had a problem with the front end floating off the ground" she said. Now here tune has changed.
I like you want more power and it is on the way, I got a pretty good deal on a Cobb header and high flow cat, But after that I am thinking of going with some KYB shocks and some lowering spring once the funds are restored.

I'm guessing you have a new legacy GT turbo, as that is all Xccelleration carrys anything for. A guy who owns a local subaru shop here in DC, Mach V, has a white GT wagon with suspension, wheels, some other stuff, and a UTEC. You may want to email him and see what suspension setup he has, Ive ridden in it and ride quality has not been diminished at all. He has all kinds of plans for his wagon, so you can probly chit chat him into telling you everything, he is extremely knowledgable.
Mach V contacts (if you email ask for Dan):
