View Full Version : Stealth, part 1 - thinking about going scoopless

After taking a look at the old "J's 98 Liberty RX" thread, I got inspired to think about something radical in terms of Subaru mods. People always talk about having a hoodscoop put on their BDs...

...but no one talks about going scoopless.

If I decided to go scoopless, I would be doing it because

1) I would want to be more stealthy, i.e. no reason to have a scoop if I'm not running a turbo

2) This would be in lieu of a repaint in the spring or in the year/years to come

3) I would be seriously considering generally tidying up my car, like clearing corners, yellowing my gt fogs, etc.

What do you guys think? (...dumb question. I know you guys would be all over the possibility of a bd hoodscoop trade or sale anyday. Am I wrong?)

The BD series look ugly without the hoodscoop. Unless you have a reason to go 'stealth' aka 'sleeper'.. i would just leave the scoop hood on. It really helps with the lines of the car in my opinion, and if you take it off, its going to look overly-grandmother-like.

I'm going to be doing the same thing to my 98 LOB as well (hood wise) as some more (JDM lighting + surprises) to "clean up" the exterior styling and make it "smoother". Should look pretty slick when completed, not quite "grandma's car" and not quite "stock", more like CLEAN  . I do agree that being scoopless will make the car more "grandmotherly", but with clear corners and more it will just look clean. I'm not going to turbo my ride any time soon and agree that the scoop is not necessary without the turbo. Good luck and do as you want, it's your car and if it looks good to you that is all that matters (others are just bonus points).

Scoopless will look nice followed with a drop and nice rims. I thought about doing it myself.

if ppl know anything about cars then they will know that lgt's come with a scooped hood and they probly would think nothing of your car if it is turboed or not just think well it is just a lgt .if they assume that you have a turbo just beacue you have a hood scoop that would be like saying just beacsue a honda has a body kit it is fast or has a turbo idk man that is just my $0.02 i like the scooped hood

Heh - all the BD's want to ditch the scoop, all the BE's want to get one. If only we could actually trade that way.... *snaps fingers*

My BD is scoopless, but I want a scoop, I guess its like girls and boobs, the girls with big ones want small ones and the girls with small ones want big ones.

ryu, if you need to get rid of your scooped hood, I have a scoopless spruce metallic green hood with your name on it haha.

Your analogy was more clear, and had boobs.

Clearly, better then mine.
