View Full Version : Trunk Lid Torsion Bar

Has anybody ever broke one of the torsion bars in their trunk. I went home a month ago and when I went to open my trunk it was hella heavy. I figured it was because the wind was blowing so I didn't pay any attention to it. Then two days later I opened the trunk again and it was still heavy. I move some of the garbage in the trunk over and I found a little U-shaped piece of metal that broke off of the torsion bar up top (I think it's a torsion bar atleast...). Anyways, how hard would it be to replace one of these. I'll only be home for a couple of hours next time (I'm back at school now) and I have to install a ski rack and hopefully a new torsion bar. Let me know what you think.

Its not hard at all, just get the replacement (for trunk with spoiler I think its twice as much) and twist it in there.

Alright, sick. Yea, I was checking allsubaru and the one for a trunk lid with spoiler is $35 and the other one is $9.

are you kidding a 5 pound spoiler requires an extra 30 bucks... thats insane. i bet the normal one would work just fine.

Have you lifted a trunk w/spoiler without torsion bars? Its heavy, cuz.

Werd. It is ridiculously heavy. It's impossible to close without slamming, even with one torsion bar.

GrassyKnoll had to do this on his STi when he went wingless, so you could PM him and ask him about it.
