I installed a few parts this weekend and gave her a good wash, so I figured I'd try out my new camera and take some pics. As it states in my signature, 1997 Subaru Legacy GT BD Sedan, 5-speed.

My front lip (GT lip) is pretty ka-blammed up... I am seriously going to be sanding and repainting that sucker come spring. I imagine I might be able to get away with some real good claying and waxing of the current paint job to see if I can make some of the other more serious stuff go away too...

why are you guys painting your cars in spring? snow melts in spring and leaves all the gravel and crap from the sanded roads. thats like the biggest time for rock chips and shit. dont destroy your brand new paintjob in a week.

there are very few roads, that I've seen at least, here in WV that get sanded. We get the usual dose of salt, which sucks, but doesn't do so much paint damage as the gravel :-?

yeah the salt really doesnt hurt the cars too bad. like said above, i havent seen any roads with gravel or sand here. Anyways, once i paint mine im going to put the clear vinyl to help protect it some. Too cold to be doing body work and painting now anyways

I second that - although painting now if you can might not be a bad idea. I just know I'd feel more comfortable and I'd be able to get some help with that in the spring from my father-in-law.

Ahh help is always a good thing when painting. Especially prepping. An awesome paint job can always be ruined by bad paint prep.

This is all the pics I have of it so far. Struts, springs, and group N tophats really stiffened it all up extremely well.

Complete nooB here when it comes to suspension and individual parts. What do you like the most about the stiffer suspension setup?

I can still remember when I started driving a Legacy GT as opposed to a Grand Am. Could have just been the seats (went from leather seats to grippier cloth seats with snugger side bolsters), but I felt a big difference when driving (the suspension could have been to blame as well).

I would like to learn more about my car, if I'm going to be paying for it and holding on to it for the next 5+ years.

I havent really thrashed on it too much. I figure the snow tires will keep me from doing too much thrashin till spring time and i get some nice summer wheels/tires.

As for the ride with the setup i have, its stiff. Some of the roads around here are pretty rough so I do feel the stiffness.

But as for the handling it has improved alot since ive put all these parts on. Seems like the Tophats have stiffened up my steering actually a little bit. Could just be because they are new and my old ones were worn out.

What springs and struts did you go with? I went with H&Rs and KYB GR2s on my old BD and it was sort of stiff, but I got used to it. It was a lot more rough with the 17s and summer tires on too.

jjs316
01-14-2008, 09:12 PM
I went with KYB Gr-2s and Whiteline Control Springs. I dont mind the roughness, i figure ill get used to it.

Wow those snow tires look like they have a crazy aggressive tread pattern! I'm almost surprised the WL control springs didn't lower it a bit more. Looks nice though, I wish I had the '05 WRX's for my winter tires... the bronze I feel hides the dirt really well

Nice GT

jjs316
01-15-2008, 08:38 AM
yeah they have really nice tread. Ive had them before on a front wheel drive car and they did extremely well in the winter. I figure the springs will settle a little more over time, but its plenty low for what I was going for.

The Grand Am is a boat, and built for touring Americans. The GT has 15% stiffer suspension than the L model, and is a smaller japanese vehicle. Dynamics are different.

My old man has a Grand AM. Over all you don't want to drive to fast because like Huffer said it handles like shit. BUT that may be my next car...... only because I might get it for free. Trade straight up for my Neon (he wants a truck) lol.

Here are some other pictures I took of my car when I was on the hunt for February ROTM pictures to turn in. Keep in mind that these were just taken with 8 megapixel point-and-shoot digital cameras, so sorry for the lighting in some of them. Overall we took 190 pictures and about 20 or so turned out decent.

I forget what I had to pay for the set thats on my car. I had two sets at one point in time. They usually run about 150-200 depending on the condition and where/who you get them from. You can find them on Ebay or some sellers here in the classified sections.

I dont have HID but there are some people on here that have HID kits in their projectors.

do u think that an hid kit is worth getting if i get projectors? and does it really make a diffrence besides looks??

jjs316
08-17-2009, 11:50 AM
From what Ive read, yes it makes major difference. I have not seen one in person so I really cant say much about how great it is, but from the pictures I have seen, HID kits really light things up.

The projectors for the BD/BG take starndard 55w H1 bulbs. However, with some very simple modification, you can easily toss in an HID kit and make them MUCH more useful. I can take some HID pictures if you'd like too.

Check RPMGarage. $123 + shipping, which is always expensive from Japan, but it'll cost you A LOT less than $400... They also send quality used parts. I've ordered a lot from them and they're always in great condition.

I think RPMGarage only ships once or twice a week. It'll go out soon I'm sure. When I order my stuff, it doesn't ship right away (As in same day) but somehow it does reach me rather quickly. So, don't worry! They'll get to you soon! :)

My stuff from Japan usually takes less time then it does to ship across the US.

Exactly. I always find that a bit strange. It'll be sent from Japan and I receive it about 3 days later. Hell, I rarely get local letters delivered that quickly.
