Need HID info

I want to put some HID's in my '97 GT but know pretty much nothing about them, where can I get some good HID's that will fit my car? I also want to put on a new bumper (stock) would it be easiest to do both at the same time?

^ well u do have to remove the headlights to take off the bumper, but it only takes a min or two to take of the headlights. but yea as for the hids, pretty much not worth it unless u have projectors. and from what i was told if u dont have low beam projectors (like in stock US legacy headlights) your only choices are to get only low beam hids (meaning u dont have a high beam anything anymore) or u can basicly get a dual element hid that has the hid as the high beam... i gota go check another thread then i will post more info if i can.

ok, so i was wrong, i guess u can get dual element hid bulbs. this company.. http://www.mobilehid.com/products.htm sells some for h4s and like it says it has a hid low and a halogen high, they also sell dual hid (high and low) for an extra cost.

According to this link I need the 9003 for my low beams, or the 9006 for my "fog/driving light" so I am gonna want the 9003 if I wanna do the bulbs in my regular head lights right?

Dont you still have to retrofit even the JDM projectors in order for HID's to be 'legal' / work properly?

Let me chime in here. The higher up the scale of K you get the less light your HIDs provide. The 4300 HID kit provides the most amount of light and usually the cops don't bother you for it cause it looks stock.

I want to have more visible light, sure. But I also want them to look cool, so maybe the 6000? Here's some comparisons. (The right side is all halogen).

That's the thing, I like the blue, but I'm afraid the 8000's are gonna be a little too blue... I guess I will just pick one and go with it. I'll see what's in out other car first.

Projectors use H7 (low beams)
Thats what i got, mine is 6000, it looks sorta purple in the day and aqua blue in the night :-?

I have a 6k, it's like a very light bluish tint. search for my name here for the thread...it has some comparo shots.

Keep in mind if you have any rain or fog, the bluer the beam the less contrast you have and the harder time you'll have seeing - it's almost as if you're not driving with your headlights on.

HID's are legal over here, and provide much better illumination than the awful stock lights. There's a fella over on our uklegacy (http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8521&hl=hid+kits) forum sells these kits for around £60-£80 to forum members, which is about $122-£162 at the current exchange rates. Not sure what postage to US would be, but I got a door handle shipped from Virginia for $6
I would guesstimate the usual £10 ($20) handling charge plus US postal rates. Got to be worth making an enquiry for anyone wanting to fit HID's.

few things you should know.

only put hid into OEM HID projectors. putting them in after market or halogen projectors create hot spots, un even light spread and the width of the beam will suxor. ur best bet is to retrofit a projector into the house if stock u need a bixenon (hi/low) projector, if u use the jdm u need a low beam projector.

hid projectors take d2s d4s and d1s bulbs. any other HID bulb is not ment for a projector.

projectors 90-200$
bulbs 30-60$
ballasts 100-150$

that pricing is for OEM equipment, not cheap fleabay stuff with poor reliability.


also 4300k phillips/GE/osram are the best bulbs u can get with the most output. phillips 85122/85122+ put out roughly 3200 LM.

i run TSX projectors, with phillips 85122 YX bulbs. the only OEM yellow 3000k bulb. here are some pics of them in my maxima, soon to be in the new sub.

I think it would be a great addition to the JDM projectors to have HIDs. How would you wire something like this? I thought that I heard that you will need a diod somewhere to prevent the HID from being on with the Highbeams. I don't know, just was interested in finding out for all the information.

thats the harness needed. ignore the civic thing. also the jdm projectors are for halogen. NOT HID.

+1 for HID reflector/projector retrofit. Its the only way to get the most out of a HID swap and also the safest.

I could have placed a HID kit in my WRX for cheap, but after much research I realized it was much better to spend a few extra bucks and do it right. So I've got a set of 07 STi HID's waiting to go in this spring :cool:

speaking of that I saw a person driving on the highway I-95 N yesterday with what had to be 12000K bulbs.. it was so blue and so dim he stuck out like a very sore thumb...
