Proper way to launch ?

what is the best and posibly fastest way to launch a 4eat ?

brake stalling ? can the trans handle that ?

do you guys floor it from the start ?

do you start in D or do you put it in 1 and work you´re way up ?

In mine (which is slow as hell, but w/e)

1) Get in and start car
2) Put car in drive
3) Depress brake fully
4) Floor gas
5) Let go of brake




I guess you could dump it from N but that'll kill the tranny really quick.

Yeah brake torque is what they call it. Press on brake while holding revs and release the brake...I don't know how your transmission will like it with the AWD and all (well no transmission likes this technique, period), but yeah...

in my truck power brake then launch at 3500 rpm

I've tried the floor the brake and gas, then let off brake method in our BH, but it really doesn't work very well. Even with the brake pedal on the floor, the car creeps forward in a disturbing manner. :roll: Not my car, I only drive it once or twice a year tops, so I don't really care.

The 4EAT will make it slow. Our BH gets humiliated by NA PT Cruisers, that's how slow they are. In the time it takes our BH to get from 0 to 60, my BK (5 speed) will have already made it up to about 90. Don't race a BD/BK 2.2 4EAT?

i brake then pulse the gas, i launched at 2500 i beleive, i glased at it before the Christmas tree lit up

wow.... i see a lot of burnt out torque converters on this forum VERY soon....

DO NOT hold ur foot on the brake and give it gas. you guys dont have a stal like in a old chevy drag car. your torque converters cant handle that.

when u line up, duh put your foot on the brake so your not rolling. give it a LITTLE gas. the car should rev up some and you should feel like maybe the back end lift up some. dont give it much gas at all, if its creeping forward or moving or making noises way to much. im talking maybe, maybe 500 rpm over idle is all you want to do. just leave it in drive let off the brake and mash the gas as fast as you can.

first off your not going to out smart a automatic tranny, so shifted from 1 to 2 to D is nothing but a easy way to mess up your race, possibly hitting nutrual, reverse or the revlimiter not shifting fast enough. so dont bother, D and go.

do not put it in neutral, rev it up and drop it to drive. kiss your tranny good bye.

the only good way to launch a automatic is with a stal converter. it allows the car to rev up in gear to whatever RPM you have it set for while the brake is pushed, then when you mash the gas an let go the brake your launching at that RPM.

however i doubt you can get one for a suby, specially a legacy. tipically though stals launch you at around 4k (you can get lower and higher)

but a 4k launch on a stock drivetrain legacy.... you can kiss your draintrain good bye. you dont have a race car... just remember that.

My Sli Decal adds more strength to the auto tranny and my arsenal decal is the gunning super octane'ish turbo booster.

Why not put it in D1, rev it to 4000rpm, foot brake and e-brake, light goes green, e-brake down, foot off brake, as soon as the rpms hit 5500rpm, push shifter into D2...

All torque converters have a stall speed. The chevy drag car in your example simply has a modified converter that gives it a higher stall speed than normal.

You won't "burn up" the legacy's torque converter by brake torquing, unless you do it for extended periods of time and overheat the transmission fluid.

I leave mine In D, brake torque it to leave the line, and let the 4EAT shift it for me. It pulls off 6000rpm shifts every time at full throttle, that's good enough for me.

if your planting the brake and reving it past 2500 so its beggin to move and making noises, its going to go out. did in a frontier power braking it. it doesnt hurt them at a low rpm because they are designed for that. but when your pushing the limits on them, they wont last.

Now why would I go do something silly like that? I had a DSM before and I did some pretty fun launches with that but it was only FWD.. my BD is for longevity.. I rarely take it to 5k rpm when I'm driving!!

I've done 5K launches on a really bad clutch in my GT. Floor it, dump the clutch at around 4K, it'll slip up to 5K then hold it there until the tires catch up with the engine.

New clutch, I launch around 3K. When I launch at all... Usually, I try to bog as much as possible, then mis-shift into 5th instead of 3rd and kill the engine, instead of winding it up to redline.
