what can i use and what cant i use?? any help would be appreciated

you cant fit 2.5 pistons in a 2.2 engine.

crank and rods would be the only thing that might, dont know

I know people have in the passed used an ej25 crank in a smaller displacemtn block, perhaps ej25 rods as well but I can't remember which smaller ej they stuffed them in - definately not pistons though as has been said

what would the benefit be???

well i wanted to find a bore kit or something.....i dont really want to put a ej25 in because of all the headgasket problems a one of my freinds had brought his car to the shop 4 differant times because of the problem. also i am not very good with the wiring when you do engine swaps...i have done a few hondas but subies are just a little differant

^ do what im doing, 2.5 block plus 2.2 heads. no tuning, no wireing. just fill it with premo... high comp torque monster, well thats what i hope anyway haha.

so what years will a 2.5 block fit, and what about all the sensors would i use the ones from the 2.2 or the 2.5??

or would i just take the wiring harness off of the 2.2, 2.5 either or...

i swapped a 99 2.5 into a 95 lsi that had a 2.2 no problem not even a check engine light.
only problem was a valve spring broke a coupple days later

will any ej25 fit from 96-99? like an impreza one??

will any ej25 fit from 96-99? like an impreza one??

Yes, it should
ANY EJ-series engine can fit in any EJ-series engine bay. It's the wiring and plumbing that can get interesting.

my wireing was just fine. the only thing i had to do that was interesting was get vaccum hoses for the charcol canister because on the 99's theyre in the back not in the engine compartment like my 95. it wasnt that hard though

If you swap just the shortblock you minimize a lot of the wiring hassles.

yeah i understand that but what about the wiring harness for the engine?? can i use my 2.2 one or do I have to get one for a 2.5?? and what about a 2.5 throttle body fitting because i am getting my intake manifold ported/polished, and i need a new throttle position sensor so I might as well do it right and get one for a 2.5 if it fits but I dont understand why it wouldnt

thanks guys i appreciate the help.

As I recall, the point of putting a EJ25 crank into a EJ22 was to give it increased stroke, and thus displacment...... I think. I believe that it would up the displacment to 2.35l. Thus making a "stroker." kinda like the Chevy 383 is a chevy small block and a chevy big block mix (I think it is the Chevy 383).

Also, I would assume that the main resons for swapping the EJ25 heads area that thet flow better, and that the increase in the compression would make for better power and torque......?

This leaves three questions......
!.) What amount of tuning would be needed to make the EJ22 "stroker" work?

2.) What kind of power output would one expect from a EJ22 "stroker?" (I know that is a subjective question)

3.) What kind of power gains would you see from the EJ25, with EJ22 heads? (again, a subjective question)

^ power from the 2.5 block and 2.2 heads is similar to that of just a 2.5. maybe extra torque from the higher CR. it runs just fine on a stock 2.2 ecu, just requires 91+ octane gas. pretty much its what you do when u can get your hands on a block for cheap, but if u can get a whole 2.5 for cheap you would be better off just using that. also with a phase 1 2.5 block with the 2.2 heads there is no need for any wiring. just plugging in.

might be getting a wrecked 99 2.5rs, he is selling it to the junkyard, so what do you guys think will be better.. 2.5 with 2.2 heads or a 2.2 with 2.5 heads??? I am going to get this car just dont know what to do with which

2.2 with 2.5 heads is a waste of time... unless your turboing.

so your saying do the 2.5 with the 2.2 heads??
