ebay intake vs. name brand??

so i'm thinkin bout gettin an air intake soon, and was wonderin how good the "ebay air intake" was. is there a noticeable performance difference between that and a more expensive one?? Also, it says its for a 93-01 legacy or something, but will it still work with my air flow sensor, or whatever the heck that thing is?? how would i go about that??

might help if you post a link... and there's a few threads in this section discussing this mod too... the ebay intakes are fine... you can go bling if you want too.

These cars benefit more from suspension than intakes.

I would say get an Ebay intake and call it good.

first off, you will never have a noticeable performance gain with nothing but an intake.

2nd its the cone that makes the performance more than the intake its self... nothing wrong with ebay piping. i personally would just put a K&N cone on the end of it. and call it good.

MAKE SURE it works with your MAF sensor. a lot say they do...but they dont. make sure there is a hole for it so it works properly. and yes a link posted would help a lot more.

also has huffer said, intakes on subarus really are not needed. on sti's the stock air box is good up to like 400 hp. intakes on your stock motor are more only for looks and a tiny bit of sound, dont expect any performance out of it. maybe slightly better fuel economy because it will prob lean your car out a tiny bit.

well Huffer, i have suspension just bout taken care of, and thought an air intake may help. but your advice is it wouldn't?

ebay is fine, but for amost all of them u will have to modify atleast one of the nipples on it, the one for the pcv valve is not even close to stock size. i jb welded the stock plastic nipple onto the ebay intake and that worked fine. also u will have to go to an auto parts and buy a maf adapter so u can mount the filter on the end of the sensor box, it also looks like with that kit you would need another coupler to attach the sensor box to the end of the intake.

ok just uploaded some pics of what i had to do....

here is the stock nipple for the plastic intake arm. i notched a peice of copper pipe to sleeve the nipple so i would have more surface area to apply jb weld.

befor welding make sure u test fit and get the direction of the nipple correct.

this is how it looks inside the car. i had an extra elbow around so i decided to use that. here u can see how the extra coupler is needed if your intake only comes with he one for the throttle body. and on the filter side of the sensor u can you see the maf adaptor plate. i needed to drill some new holes into to align it well. also u can see my custom bracket i made to help support. it may look like a lot of extra work, but it really wasnt that time consuming.

i flog the car to much to notice gas mileage improvements, but the less than accurate butt dyno thinks car is a little better in the high rpms. all i know for sure is that it sounds way more bad ass haha.

Ebay intake will give you just as much gain as any other brand, pluss you donlt feel as bad tuning it, meaning cutting it and welding or splicing the piping to go whereever you want.

I didn't have to do any welding for mine, it came perfect for me ,just one t connector and a little bit of hose and I was good.
