Towing companies?

Okay.. things have not been going so well. FINALLY got someone to help me tow my car.. and shit hit the fan. Got to the border.. and I was denied entry. End of story. Blew $200 or so getting there.. and was a little more than pissed about it.

So now.. i got my motor in the shop, they took the heads off and such.. and it needs $3500 worth of repairs.. supposedly.. i'm getting the paper from them tomorrow with the estimate.. and as to HOW fucking much its going to be. Which is bull.. cause they quoted me $2200 MAX with both head gaskets done.. blah blah.

Now they need to get new piston rings because I have blow by.. but they said the valves are good and such.. so WHY its 16 hours of labor.. i have NO effin CLUE!

So.. it's either i spend more money on this useless EJ25 engine, or I find someone who can tow my car from NH to Montreal.. who wont get denied entry.. like me.

Anyone know of a good towing company.. or a friggin idea here? Someone throw me a bone! Or.. a gold brick. I'm gonna need it.

It's a lot more work. They've gotta completely disassemble the engine to do rings.

Because apparently I'm related to osama or something.. it doesn't matter however.. fact is.. they aren't going to let me in.. so, I need to find another method of getting the car up there.. mainly why I was asking about shipping.

lol well now, looks like you won't be flying anywhere anytime soon. What a bummer, you ever asked the shop in Canada if they do pick ups? Some places would come and get your car.

Yea, i think thats my next step.. just ask them if they can pick it up (i doubt it). Only problem is.. i dont know if they can bring a car through the border without the car being theirs.. i kept getting asked 'IS THE CAR YOURS' about 100 times while being processed through on the border. I guess i could also try to get the same friend to help me to tow it up near the border and he could meet me and bring it the rest of the way.. but i think my friend wont be willing to help me tow it again.. which blows =[


Anyone just know any tow companies that might not be a fortune? Only problem is..i live kinda near no pickup hubs and stuff for the big ones.. got quoted $1500 from DAS.. screw that.

Well I had talked to the guy at the shop before about it... he could do it from somewhere near the border.. so that means I'd need to find someone else to bring me there again. I'm really just looking to see if anyone knows a towing company or something that just might do it the full way?

Try a car transporter company. It would cost a few hundred though.

As long as its not a few thousand right. haha.. also, guess i could just do a google search for 'car transporter' + 'my state' or whatever.. we'll see what comes up. I'm trying to talk the subaru place down right now into just rebuilding this engine.. we'll see how low i can get them. I know I can already save a bunch of money by buying from that site you gave me if I decide to go that route.. so thats a plus.. if i decide to go that route, maybe i'll grab that pulley off you as well.

Do you have AAA Northern New England? If so, Just make sure its done on a Sunday or a day that isn't (possibly) going to be busy. Just tell the call receiver that the car was repaired there before. Otherwise, they'll tell you it can't be done.

Eastcoastswappers have plenty of regular EJ25 from their swap jobs. They take $500 off the labor for their swap to keep them.

Call them up if you need just a replacement engine.

Hell, you can call up plenty of places and get a replacement engine for 1/4th the price youre looking at in rebuilding that thing.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother throwing so much money in rebuilding a $500 engine. Just replace the damn thing.

I'm pretty sure the place in Canada is doing a swap, not a replacement.

Seriously though, with all this running around and lost money in towing, you'd have been a part-time job away from having ECS do the full swap, engine+turbo+harness.

Your best bet would be to CALL ECS and have them do it. I don't think the prices are higher than most of the other shops on the east coast. Like what was said a few posts up they do $500 cores. You can get one of those swapped in and be done with it.

Keep in mind the prices for engine swaps they list on the site is for turbo engines - i.e. lots of wiring involved, which goes into the hours they charge. If you're just replacing your engine, the swap is completely plug and play and a regular shop is capable of doing it.

Not looking to just replace the engine.. he'll.. if i wanted to do that, I could prolly just find someone around here to help me with it. I was looking to get a wrx engine swap.. i was quoted around $6800 by ECS, and around $4500-5k from jdmspecc in Montreal. $1800 is a lot of money in price difference, and also the mileage of the engines from ECS did not seem to be as low as those from Montreal. Plus, the cost of the swap in Montreal included a new clutch, complete custom bent exhaust, wiring, etc. etc.. and they were much more helpful than ECS was.. by FAR. I'm sure ECS does good work, they just didnt seem very willing to work with my price range, or the questions i had.. so i stopped looking into them. For now.. I think I will need to save more in order to get the car up there if i go through with it at this point (freezing damn cold).
