my AWD takes alot of spinning out of the front tires to kick in and doesnt seem to work that often. i was wondering what some ways to troubleshoot it are or if i just need to change the rear diff fluids or just a completely new rear differential. thnx for your helps!

subarus awd doesnt work on a slip system, its full time.

if something weird is going on than it would be with your center diff.

why dont you tell us a little more about your car, model year transmission..

Front wheels spinning = center diff problems, not rear diff.

If you've got an L, i, or non turbo GT, you have open rear and front diffs, so on snow, you're going to have a front and a rear wheel spin at the same time.

If you have a Manual trans, you've got a VLSD. Viscous requires some slippage to lock the diff up, so you'll see some front spinning before it kicks in.

If you have an autotragic, you've got a clutch type, and should be locked into 50/50 from the get-go. If it's not, put the car in 3 or 2 when taking off, and you'll reduce the wheel spin on takeoff. It DOES work on a spin system, and it's "full time". It's 90/10 front/rear when it's in 4th gear with OD engaged.

automatic has 90/10 front rear and varies depending on traction if you have it in D or 3. If you put it in 1, 2 or Reverse then it locks it at 50/50. As others mention there is some wheel spin before it kicks in due to the clutch system, which can be minimized by moving the gear lever.
