Best affordable strut/spring combo ?

after 150k miles, I need to replace my 98 Legacy L Wagon suspenssion !

I would like to possibly lower it a little bit, but maintain stock like ride quality if at all possible (not 100% necessary)

I was thinking about the wrx suspension but it guess its lower in the back ?
and the GC suspension isn't meant for that much weight and saggs in the back anyway ???

what should I do ?

I would like to get this on a budget,

Should I just pick up the KYB GR2 struts with some IEbach springs or whatnot? for my year legacy ?

or would I be better off going with wrx stuff or what ?

any info would be greatly appreciated !

it seems to don't sell verry many legacy specific suspension parts :(

Honestly I'd just go with a set of GR-2s and some Eibach's (if you can find them now) or H&Rs.

Course, some WRX takeoff suspension if it comes complete with tophats and spring perches might not be a bad move...

I dunno what you are using as your budget but...

Im getting ready to install the GR-2s and Whiteline Control springs i ordered.

I bought the struts for around 230 bucks and the springs for around 275 bucks, all and all the total was around 500 bucks.

I ordered new group N tophats for mine which ran me around 300.

Also got some adjustable rear camber bolts that ran me around 40 dollars from boxer4racing.

And some random nuts and bolts subaru said i "should" replace when doing this swap ran me around 60-70 dollars.

and i think thats about it for my suspension install parts.

one vote here for GR2's and eibachs. They feel very nice around town, but really hold the car level in the turns when you push on them. The eibach pro kits are actually a sedan spring, and yet, they don't sag near as much as any other spring I've seen on the wagons.

WRX guys seem to like Tokico D-spec dampers and STi pink springs with group N tophats.



Food for thought, weight and such isn't THAT far off for a Leggy.

I put a full set of WRX suspension on mine with Tien springs. It's low, but totally usable in the snow (unlike my A4) and rides pretty nice.

Can we post up some pics of what the 'stance' on these diff recommended setups looks like? I've always been interested in seeing the different stances. In my opinion, id rather have the ass end up higher than the nose.. i hate rear sag. :mad:

Here you go, this is the S-tech, the looooow springs from Tien for the 2004-05 2.5RS on KYB GR2 struts. You WILL need to roll your fenders, even with the 205 width tires I had. Thicker sway bars would probably help too. I was rather happy in this pic, 17" wheels would have completed the VIP look if I hadn't gotten rid of the car.

You rolled the rear fenders? I'm wondering about rolling the rears with the plastic lip that's in there. Not sure what to do about it but I haven't gotten under the car to really see yet. I want to add wheel spacers to mine in the rear. The tires just sit under the car to far.

Sammy, I took out the rubber stripping to roll it up. In theory, you could just cut the inner lip of the fender off and stick the rubber stripping on the newly exposed 'edge' of the outside of the fender.

Illnasty, no the sedan suspension won't work on your wagon. The rear would sag very noticably.
