Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2000 Legacy GT a week ago. The only issue I'm having so far is a clutch smell when idling in neutral. I notice it at stop lights, etc, when I've been sitting for >20 seconds or so. I drive very conservatively and don't slip the clutch at all. Also, the car had a new clutch installed a year before I bought it (about 10k miles ago). The flyweel was resurfaced.

I was browsing some threads on another forum and saw some posts that suggest that clutch smell is normal, but I find that hard to believe. I have a 40 mile commute, so generally the car is in gear for a long period of time. When I come to a stop, that's when I can smell it.

Any ideas?

Could be a few reasons..
1) Cheap clutch terrible quality.
2) Improper install
3) Shifter fork / release bearing are starting to fail.

I think they did away with clutch adjustment on these later models but it's worth looking into. If there is an adjustment setting it could be out of spec, and you're essentially slipping all the time.
