DYI: Yellow Stock Fogs (done with GT Fogs)

Besides they look mad kewl yellow fogs have their advantages.

so heres what you'll need:

1 sheet of yellow vinyl, 24" x 12" sheet on flea-bay is 12$ shopped.
1 hair dryer, hopefully you already own one
1 10mm socket/ratchet
1 Phillips head screw driver
1 exact o knife
1 can of soda/beer of choice
45 minutes-1.5 hours of free time. depending on your skill level
A LOT of patience.

first remove the fog lights with the 10mm socket , there are 2 bolts holding each fog light, plainly visible from the front of the car. un-clip the fog wire harness.


take the 2 phillips screws off the top bracket removing the fog light from the bracket. this makes it easier to apply the vinyl and wash them.

wash the light off in the sink with some mild dish detergent. make sure to wipe lenses dry

(if lenses are very pitted/faded wet sand 9see other DYI)

precut the tint into strips that will leave about 1 extra inch all around the fog light.

spray the bottle with a water bottle. (mist spray) to get the lens decently covered. apply the vinyl in general. using your hand spread the vinyl out softly try to cover as much as you can. (i don't like squeegees they scratch the vinyl).

With a hair drier put it on hot and go over the vinyl. this will NOT shrink it like some believe. but instead it makes it very stretchy. slowly grabbing from the sides stretch the vinyl over the bends and use your thumb to push out any air bubbles. this takes patience. heat stretch thumb , repeat. do this until there are no creases or air bubbles out of the vinyl. take your time you may want to put it down if you get too frusterated.

last step is to Trim the vinyl with a exact o knife. I don't trim mine because i like the extra to fold over. that way it is harder for it to ever attempt to peel off on me. here are some pics!!

Mine have been fine. Even my highbeams, which are directly next to the bulb. Surprisingly the paint hasn't even flaked/chipped one bit from road debris.

yeah just apply it to the outside and smooth it out using a something flat and a hair dryer.

i got the vinyl on ebay, it is somewhat light but lights up a very rich yellow at night.

What state do you live in? Forward facing bulb must be a hue between white to yellow much the same that a forward facing turn signal bulb must be yellow to orange.

Further more, foglights are probably illegal in any driving situation except fog/snow. Here in Colorado legally you can only have headlights on, even in rain fog lights are technically illegal. Most people don't bother with them and leave them at whatever setting they get the car in, so cops don't really bother but that is the law and the letter.

If that's a direct quote it means don't swap out your headlights for flashlights. Doesn't say anything about color.

It's not a direct qoute..but something very similar. it means nothing should be blocking or in place of your headlamps/fog lamps. ie some people like to put eye lids on their headlamps...reject...same goes with any kind of vinyl.

Actually in Oregon, your primary headlights must show a white light. (Oregon Vehicle Code 816.050 (http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/forms/vehiclecodebk.shtml))

Which works just fine with me as both my fogs and high-beams utilize yellow bulbs which is perfectly legal as my low-beam stays lit with the high-beam.

I was following my friend the other night and I turned the highbeams on, and he said that they were not any brighter than my lowbeams. I do have them aimed slightly below my lowbeams, and I tested it out myself by going out several hundred feet from my parked car and looking at the lights at different angles to see how bright they were. Good to hear confirmation from a driver. Though I've never been flashed with my highbeams on, I've been flashed twice with my lowbeams.

i used yellow vinyl for my round outback fogs...came out good, trick is to heat and use a squeegee to push the water out.

i used the krylon yellow glass spray, its held up great and looks great, I also ordered yellow bulbs from ebay and its almost as yellow as the lexus is250 stock hid yellow fogs

thats the is300 projector fogs. they only came in halogens with yellow caps.
