TB Spacer/CEL HELP

I just installed the Group A TB Spacer. Real easy install, the problem came when I started it for the first time. It revved real high then the CEL came on and the AT OIL TEMP light started blinking. Now I have had problems with the AT light due to the SAFC II but the CEL is coming up as P0122 (Pedal position sensor A circuit low input). In my OBDII I get that code twice. Once as just P0122 then the next one has P0122 and "pd" next to it.
And the final code is P0107 (MAP/BARO Circuit low input)
I noticed after I installed it that the throttle cables were looser after the install. Do I need to tighten them up?

You should check all the connections again. It's not from the TBS it's self. Go over the install again and check everything to make sure it's all hooked up correctly.

Is there anything I can do about the CEL P0122? It has never come up until now. I have tried to erase the CEL code but P0122 wont clear no matter how many time I try to erase it. I have checked and everything is hooked up. The one thing I am not sure I put back the right way was the sensor that screwes into the TB. I am not sure what it is called. I think I will have to uninstall it if I cant get these CELs and AT light to stop.

What sensor did you remove for the install?

You shouldn't have had to remove any sensors.

The error you are getting is a throttle position error.

Something is reporting to the ECU that the throttle is not where it should be.

Check to make sure you plugged all the wiring harnesses back in properly and that there is no tension on the throttle cables.

If you happened to remove the throttle position sensor you may need to rotate it (if your is adjustable) to report proper open/close.


Short of this... make sure that everything is sealed properly and that the butterfly is moving smoothly.... it could be that the butterfly is stuck in a partially open position..... this MIGHT account for the slack in the throttle cables.

I went out to the shop and grabbed a Throttle Body from an RS I had kicking around. (yes it is ported if you were wondering)

I THINK you may have removed the sensor pictured above (circled)

This is the throttle position sensor..... if it is disconnected or not adjusted properly you will get the error you are reporting.

I did a closeup of how it is positioned on this particular Throttle Body. If you notice it is pretty much smack dab in the centre.

If you loosen those two screws the sensor will adjust either forward or back (closed or open)

If you did infact remove this sensor you will have to play with it till you can get it right.

Short of that you may need to bring it to a dealer that can re-adjust it for you.

I personally have not had to do this so I am not sure what the adjustment characteristics are like.

That was what I messed with. I took it off so I could clean the TB. My mistake. And your right I didn't put it back so the screws are in the center. I will re adjust them and let you know if it works. Thanks for the pics and your help.

Just went down stairs to put the sensor in the right position and it is amazing what moving it a few millimeters can do. No CEL's and no AT OIL TEMP. In fact it feels like normal. Thanks for the help!!

I am SOOOOOOO glad you were able to correct the issue.

We take a lot of pride in 100% satisfaction with our products and if we can lend a technical hand we try to do so too.

I have been in the Subaru Tuning / Modding / Maintenance business (prior to Group A) for many many years so there hasn't been too much I haven't seen and when problems are described properly I can usually come up with an answer pretty quick.

Yours was one of those instances where I could picture what you did and had a mental picture of what needed to be done to correct the situation.

It comes from this experience that we make our Group A parts.... we know what works and what doesn't. Our commitment will be to NEVER make a part that is not worthwhile.... we don't want your money just for the sake of taking your money.... we want to exchange your money for a part that does something good for you and your car.

As an FYI..... if you look to the other side of the Throttle Body you will see another sensor. That is your Idle Air Control Sensor. That particular sensor does get very dirty over time and if you have the incling to remove that sensor and clean both in the Throttle Body and the sensor itself you will notice improved gas economy as well as better response from the car.

That depends on SO many more factors than just adding a TB spacer.
You should know that already since you already bought one.

Well I only ask because on their site they claim "Improves gas economy" I was just curious what type of gain they saw with the spacer installed.

What we saw was an average of 50KMs per tank increase in fuel economy.

We are waiting for a special device that we can hook up to the car and measure an accurate before and after for fuel consumption.

Till that comes in all we can really repond with is what our customers are reporting to us and what we see ourselves with the shop cars.
