View Full Version : I hate my rear suspension...

I can fit 03 Outback wheels and stock tires on the front without any serious rubbing, but the rears don't clear the lower suspension perch. Serious rubbing there.

So, I need new tires now. Taller isn't gonna happen, but seeing how pathetically tight the BK's rear wheel wells are, can I fit some 225 50r16 tires without running into suspension clearance problems? Is there any way for me to switch out to a rear suspension with a bit more room between the perch and the top of the tire?

I have 205/55 R16's and they are almost touching. I imagine 215 is about as wide as you can go. Heck even WRX guys have trouble with 225.

I've got room in mine, the 205/55's are stock on mine. I just want to know how I can get more distance between the axle and the bottom of the strut perch on the rear suspension.

Change struts, that's it. It's a pretty static measurement.

Would stock Outback struts fit in my suspension though?

It has been done in the past, you'll put slightly more stress on your CV joints and you'll need an alignment, but it will work.

If you want to do it properly, there are a few people on the board who have converted their Outbacks to 2.5GT ride height who can probably give/sell you the body spacers which will correct the CV & lower arm angle.

tire size is going to depend on the brand of tire... my falken 452's fit fine (205/55/16) on my Bronze snowflakes(for sale also- 16x6.5 +55)

but my friend had some snowflakes with Michelin Harmony 205/55/16 and it rubbed the spring perch.

solution for me was a set of 99 RS wheels(16x7 +53), painted Bronze, and new 452's =)

the spacers are a great Idea, but dont go very big. If you want more than a 3mm (maybe 5mm) I would get some longer Studs. they are soooooooooooo eazy to change out, and factory sized ones are about $0.83 at advanced auto.

I wanna put 225 60R16 tires on my car, which is setup for 205 55R16. The next thing after I get the suspension figured out is roll my fenders. I know those will rub, a 205 55R16 tire on 46ET wheels rubbed like a bitch. stupid aftermarket crap.
