alright, well, im not sure if this is where it goes, so moderators feel free to move it if necessary

heres my problem- i own a '97 TT legacy RS in japan and my buddy and i fabricated a 3" midpipe a while back for my car and ive been running an open midpipe with a turndown bolted on the end for a while... im happy with the performance gains and it definately has a unique sound that i like, but its a little loud(even for me) and is starting to get on my nerves... i want that rich, deep, subaru sound that you get from an aftermarket exhaust and im missing out on it because of my lack of an axleback... ive looked around japan for an axleback, but every single one that i can find has 3" piping that necks down to 2" right after the flanges meet... heres a picture of what im talking about:

now, i dont really want to hack up one of these axleback's and start piecing parts together- id like to be able to sell it without any problems if i have to later down the road

what i would like to know is will any of the WRX axlebacks fit with very little to no modification? btw in case you were wondering, an axleback for a USDM BD5 is the same for a JDM BD5... i think this might help b/c itll open up my options a little more for an axleback that is a 3" without any type of stepdown like the ones over here... thanks

I am not sure about how the flange is oriented on turbo legacy's, but on the naturally aspirated ones, you need to cut and rotate the WRX flange. Then chop off the hangers, all 3. The front hanger faces to the right, when it needs to be left, and the rear most hangers need to come back another few inches.

You are in Japan. The fact that you cannot find a turbo-back exhaust for a JDM RS tells me you aren't looking hard enough!

Even Fujitsubo exhausts have a 3" flange on a 3" ID axleback.

Find one, bolt it on.

I bet you could go to a junkyard in Japan and find a great selection of takeoffs...

actually there are no junkyards around here that ANYONE knows of lol... just my luck... ive seen many many many Fujitsubo exhausts here and they are all like that picture... im sure that there has to be some, but everywhere i look around here is just like that

So cut some 3" pipe, weld it to the flange and then weld it to the axleback.

Honestly, you are making way too big of a deal over the small/short part of the axleback. If it is a 3" ID pipe for the rest of the axleback, it will flow just fine.

Just be ready for boost to spike a bit.

if i where you i would cut out the 2" ection the find a 3" falange and the amount of piping to replace the 2" and weld it in place it would take 1o mins tops

what i would sugest doing is find a 3" flange, just cut off the reduced flange, take pipe to muffler shop, expand reduced section to 3" and weld on new flange. bada bing bada boom done.

and should only cost a few bucks.

so pretty much the same thing i said idk - the welding + $20+ for labor from a exhaust shop
