View Full Version : Group Buy pulley set

Group A released the PS pulley to complete the set. If theres enough interest to buy the 3 pulley set, 2 pulley (crank, Alt) or just one pulley I will slap something together to get this through. We could do what we did with GrimmSpeeds spacers and get Nasioc guys in on it to lower coasts.

what would the ballpark cost be here (for a crank, PS, and ALT)

3 pulley set is $210 +ship.
is that the regular price or the group buy price?

search ebay, there's a few different ones, I've had one of those kits on my last wagon and moved it to the new wagon. No problem at all in about 30k miles

based on this, I will delete any posts that do not:
1. refer specifically to the products Reason mentioned in the original post.
2. You do not give any objective data regarding WHY the Group A products are apparently priced too high.
First & last warning. I am tired of seeing people spout opinion not based on empirical information.

this post is rediculous, both my posts meet this criteria exactly.
1) They refer to the product because it's expensive
2) data why it's expensive: others are less than half the price
empirical data? Sorry, I'm not going out and scientifically testing every pulley on the market, neither are you and guaranteed neither is 'Group A'
the pulley I have has been on two cars, three motors, on and off a handful of times and seen approximately 30k miles of service. That's plenty enough empirical data.
more specific information for those to lazy to look on ebay....
searching for Subaru pulley on ebay will yield this http://search.ebay.com/subaru-pulley_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQdfspZ1QQfromZR40QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ34QQsbrsrtZd
You'll see quite a few different pulley sets there. I'm pretty sure the one I actually have is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNDERDRIVE-CRANK-PULLEY-SET-SUBARU-WRX-IMPREZA-2-0L_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38656QQihZ013QQitemZ230210389707QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Mine doesn't have the PS pulley. I got mine three years or so ago, so I can't tell for sure what one it was.
Subaru pulleys have been on the market for years, expensive ones and cheap ones in multiple different colors, all of which work perfectly fine. unless you can offer something new and improved or cheaper, why even enter the market?
Huffer, maybe you're having a bad day, I dunno, but relax man, it's cool

^ yea all of those are under driven. and there is always room on the market for quality parts. they are still cheaper than stuff like perrin and unorthadox so i dont see what the problem is. i love my groupa crank pulley. not everybody is content with throwing crap on their cars.

ebay pulleys FTL....
I want the alternator and crank pulley. How much for just those? What would be the benefit of the PS pulley besides lost weight?
Shane is the man, $210 sounds like a steal for all three, and it is a product I can trust.

Sammy this kit isn't underdriven. Plus it is back buy Group A and their great customer service. Tell me the company that you got your pulley from would do the same? Anyway nobody is twisting your arm to buy. You don't like the price don't buy, it's as simple as that.

I'm not saying anything's wrong with the group a product. It very well might be awesome. I'm just letting everyone know that a product that works perfectly fine is available for a lot cheaper. A pulley is a pretty simple product, not a lot of engineering or support is needed. If it fits, is straight and true, and doesn't wear out, what is double the price getting you? That's really all I'm saying.
Pretty sure I've seen ones that are not under driven too. Though FYI for those that might be looking at an under driven set, my headlights dim when both the heat and lights are on at idle since the alternator spins to slow. Doesn't bother me but just putting that out there.
Just sharing the info man, that's what the Internet is all about.

Because some of you live further than the next guy.
As for underdriven pulley sets. I don't know anybody who would choose an underdriven set over a stock lighten set. Why would you want to under power your accessories?

you get more power from under driving than from lightening by far. The stock pulley sizes are pretty small, so you're not going to see any measurable power gains from lightening them. The accessories take considerable power to turn. Take your belts off and go for a ride up the street, you'll notice quite a difference.
Even with underdriving you're only getting a few horsepower at best from a pulley system. For such small gains spending a lot of money on a kit seems a far cry from cost effective.
On some cars under driving accessories sucks. On the subaru, I notice no change in the power steering or AC. At idle with the headlights and heat on the lights dim a tiny bit. If the wipers are on too they dim a little more and the wipers are a little slow. Once you're off idle, even by a hundred rpm, the alternator kicks in enough current to power everything. So there are no ill effects at all.

You would actually be quite surprised.....
If the weight is not carefully set it can throw the whole system out of wack.
The crank shaft extends from the front of the engine to the back of the engine.
Crank pulley on one end and Flywheel on the other.
If the Crank Pulley is too light you will get warping and vibration in the crank shaft that will toast the motor.
We did test the proper weight that works best on the Subaru. Ours is actually a tad heavier than some of the others on the market for just this reason.
This is one reason why you should really never use a lightened crank pulley with a lightened flywheel also. The car would be horrible to drive.
I won't get into a debate about under-driven vs. not because most people have already made up their mind on this. (Even though under-driven isn't ideal)
As for "cheaper products" You need to understand alloys and how they are made. (that's why we have the iron rings on our pinkies)
Aluminum is made into grades... and when stock is purchased we make sure we buy first rate 6061 Aluminum that is checked for impurities and defects in the manufacturing of the raw stuff. a chunk of aluminum itself may not be evenly created at the molecular level... this can cause a pulley to warble or not run true. We verify that all our materials are first rate.
I won't say that the other cheaper products don't check this or that their raw materials are of a lower grade.. but it is possible.
We are also Subaru Enthusiasts ourselves. EVERYONE at Group A owns/drives at least one Subaru..... we are doing this for the Subaru Community... we are not off-shore posers looking to separate you from your hard earned dollars just to make a buck.
For those of you that support us... we appreciate it.

GroupA - once again coming to the party with clear concise information.
Just like how they helped Payback45 with his TB spacer install.
I'd like to see an eBay vendor do that.

Thanks Huffer,
I didn't mean to turn this into a commercial for Group A.... but when our products are questioned I have to respond.
We are not perfect people. I don't know anyone that is... but we do know what we are doing.
I will not turn this into a debate on who has a better product or "we are better than e-bay stuff" I personally don't have the time to do this as I have products to test and engineer.
Thanks Guys,
As Reason said.... if you are interested in the product ... great... if not......

Just an FYI, you gain more power from lighten than underdriven. You won't get much HP from under driving accessories, think about it.

you are mistaken sir, and when I have a little more time I will post up the equations to prove it. Mr group A is also grossly mistaken in the information he posted. I've PMed him about this and tried to give him the opportunity to correct the information on his own but I guess he won't do that. Explaining it in a clear and concise manor is going to take a while so I'll likely not post it for a dew days.
