JDM vs EDM

Ok, I know ALOT of people like the JDM look for their cars and all, but what about EDM (Euro Motors Dept.)? Also, I know Australia has JDM like tail lights but don't recall the headlight situation, and, are they a part of the EDM or separate? I'd rather have the Australian taillights due to the fact they say SUBARU instead of LEGACY. Reason I ask is that my brother spends time over their for work and I have a paid trip out their when I have time and he's there. I figure since I'll be their I pight as well pickthe yards and see what I can find for all my Subies and peeps and bring stuff back. If the headlights are the same as the JDMs, prices would be better than having to ship them back as they are small enough to stash in my bag and carry on. Any input would be nice.

the aussies call the legacy leberties, thats why it says subaru, i much rather EDM because to me they got jdm speed but with much better styling.

The one-piece projectors aren't that small, and they are difficult to get into carryons that meet TSA regulations. I know, I've done it. Bought a pair in NZ, then sold them here.

Australia gets a mixed bag - they have access to low-volume grey market JDM cars, but they may not get many due to the restrictive import regulations.

New Zealand, on the other hand, has very light regulations allowing access a high-volume of JDM imports.

Both countries have manufacturing capabilities for Subaru, so there is a mix of ADM and NZDM cars on the roads as well. My Impreza L 2.0 wagon was an NZDM car, and as such came standard with a factory immobilizer (great because it got broken into twice) but lacked a rear swaybar. The JDM model came with a slightly more powerful 2.0L engine, nicer interior, small RSB but no immobilizer. They get stolen like crazy.

Huffer do you know of the Australian company that sells rebuilt subaru gearboxes? they are supposed to be 70% stronger than stock, the JDM subaru's have very soft & Delicate gearboxes, i actually havent heard of allot of USDM subaru owners complaining about gearbox failures compared to JDM, i might be wrong but if not, Thats good!.

I think your sources are mistaken. JDM gearboxes are typically quite good.

Rebuilt gearboxes are usually specifically built for different gear ratios or have "dog" gears instead of synchros.

There are plenty of Australian and NZ companies that will rebuild a gearbox (and supply triple plate carbon kevlar clutches etc) for you, but they are $$$.

We got subaru owners dropping like flies down here and in jamaica mainly because of constant gearbox failures.

One guy got sick of it so he sold his impreza and bought a EvoIII.

I picked up a little trick from him, He races with Ice on his intercooler.

There's a lot of factors with those cars - if they are imported from Japan then they are a few years old and have probably been beat on in their homeland.

Evo's do have a reputation for better gearboxes, but personally I think it's because they direct torque better. WRX's tend just to put all the power out and the wheels-spin, clutches burn and people think they're glass.

Course, it could be operator error too.

I dont think its opperator error, their were 2 imprezas owners here who switch, it was highly tuned, maybe the stock box cant handle too much power?

There's the answer then. the cars were tuned for power higher than stock.
