I have a 1994 legacy sedan. I wanna make it AWD i am running a Eg33, but dont really know what i can use for an awd trans. I also wanna know what i should use for a rear differ. I know i have to swap the gas tank and a bunch of other stuff.

I converted a 90 FWD to AWD. I just grabbed another wrecked 90 and swapped everything over. Gas tank and rear crossmember and everything attached to it. Sounds worse than it is, but I do remember there was something wierd with the fuel filler neck. If you got an EG33 in there then this swap should be a piece of cake for you. You can use pretty much any running gear from any 90-98 AWD car. Just make sure the trans and rear diff have the same final drive ratio. And the manuals have different length drive shafts than the autos.

the key here is donor car - it sucks to hunt parts for the swap
Step 1: sell FWD car
Step 2: buy AWD car
Honestly, i'd be easier and probably cost the same:lol:

I used a 4.11 ratio 5 spd tranny and rear diff in my SVX and it went great with the EG33. That is probably the best all-around ratio for that motor, auto or manual. I remember switching from the stock AT 3.55 in the SVX to the 4.11 5 spd and it felt like the car lost 600 lbs. Anyway, the FWD - AWD swap is really not that bad. I think it took me about 8 hours. IIRC almost everything remains attached to the rear xmember so it mostly swaps over in one piece.

Yea selling this car is out of the question. I know to alot its a waste of time, but it would be a waste to sell it. I wanna keep my eg33 under the hood. What did you get the 5 speed from. I still have the svx rear diff, but a kid down the street has a 93 awd sedan, he wants 600 for it. I just gotta get time to look at it and see that everything is good.

Of the three swaps I've done, I used 90 running gear twice and 00 once so pretty much any Subaru manual 90+ should work.
Would love to see some pictures of your 94 with the EG33 in it.
Legacy777 on the Legacy Central BBS did an AWD/5MT/EJ22t swap in his 90.

yeah, working on putting the motor in another car. Frame was bad on mine. Yeah gotta work some bugs out, like the gauges, rpm, temp, all but fuel. Then i gotta make a good wiring harness.

I will be onest that i got the ecu from a guy that builds 5 speed svx's. Yeah i would have asked him what trans to use, but he moved to canada.

Do do this swap it should be as easy as everyone else is saying, just get a donor impreza or legacy with AWD.
The issue with trying to piece everything together is basically down to alot of hardware. You might have all the pieces you need and all, but once you get in there you will realize that none of the 2wd hardware is correct nor will fit to mount up subframes and all.
I have done a few Impreza 2wd to AWD swaps and after the first one i learned real quick.
+ buying all the proper hardware from the dealer takes multiple trips and alot of money in the end.
