BE recall?

Anybody get a recall notice on their BE? I pulled a carfax on mine today (something I should have done before I bought it because now I have hard evedince it was crashed) and it shows a cooling system conditioner recall notice posted 12-29-07. Anybody know anything about it?

It's an additive for the coolant. Since the SOHC motor is less prone to headgasket failure, that additive is the recommended fix. It's not a bullet proof solution, but it will help. There should also be a "recall" for underbody coating as well. Ask the dealer about it while you're there.

Yeah, it's just an additive that subaru will put in your coolant. And shit, another person from WV. I need to get another Legacy and start with my WV Rep stuff again. Maybe a local meet or something this summer.

just BE or BH as well, anyone know? With west virginia weather and our winters, I'd like to get the undercoating thing fixed if I'm involved.

Both for the engine since it's not model specific, but engine specific. As far as the undercoating thing; that I'm not sure about. I had the previous owner of my car do it before I bought it, so all I am certain about is that it had to do with the rear cross member getting corroded or something like that and the fix is just to spray some under body coating on it. You can do it at home unless you have a reason to be at the dealer.

I forget the recall code, but there should be a sticker on the radiator support. I did the rear undercoating for kinney's Subaru at Turk's Auto Body in Vermont(it was outsourced to the body shop where I worked) it is the rear crossmember. It was special stuff that was used I cannot remember the name of the product, there was a rust inhibitor(sp) that was applied to the inside of the crossmember and then there was undercoating that was applied to both the inside and the outside. I only did ~300 legacy wagons, legacy sedans, outback wagons and outback sedans, one of the main reasons I left the autobody shop, the shit was nasty, and they only provided a mask, no suit.

You have to do the inside of the x-member in order to be affective.

IMO the coolant additive is just a bandaid to help owners out of the warranty period so SOA wouldn't have to deal with as many HG's.

That coolent additive stopped my leaking radiator. It works. Cheap repair.

It's also important to note that Subaru won't honor any HG warranty claim for the Phase II's until you prove you got the additive in the coolant, so it's prudent to put it in there, whether it really works or not.

It's less than $2 from the dealer anyway...so there's really nothing "bad" so to speak about doing it vs. not doing it.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a work order that the PO gave me for the rear undercoat recall thing but I didn't notice one for the additive. I'll have to go back through the paperwork again to make sure it was done.

So this recall isn't a recent thing then? It was listed on my carfax as posting in late December '07.

Also, what engines have the crappy HG designs? I thought mine didn't fall into that catagory. I guess I was wrong...

The design of the hg isnt crappy unless it's an original version. Any car that has had the replacement HG installed should have the thicker, metal gaskets that are now Subaru OEM.

The recall was done years ago...
Carfax is not 100% accurate. Neither is autocheck.
