Who runs a 205 width tire on a 17" or 18" wheel? That just seems like it would be so counterproductive. But at the same time, a 225 or 235 width tire just won't fit... What do people do? I'd love to throw some 225 width tires on (225 60R16's didn't rub in the front, but 205 55R16 tires on 16X7 ET 46 wheels did rub in the bad), but there's so little space in the back, it's just amazing.

Sti Wheel s are 17x7.5, and 04s came with 225s, so they should fit in the rear, with spacers all around anyway.

I belive the 5x114 wheels are 17x8s, and wont fit our cars:(

I usually stick with 215/40/17 or 215/45/17.

If I want extra contact patch I adjust camber - more tire = more rotational mass = heavier.

Yeah, I am right now Either on my stock size or I also have 17x7s, with 215/40s... Also consider a lower offset if you dont have huge brakes. Pushing your wheel out will give you a wider stance=better lateral grip...

If a wheel/tire that sticks out 6 mm further than stock rubs, what would the extra 11 mm do on a 17X7.5" wheel with 225 tires?

215 40 or 214 45, sweet. You running a wagon huffer? Or a Sedan? From what I've read, the sedans have more room in the rear than the wagon does (irony, blather).

Shouldnt be too bad with a stock offset, i think there is about 1.25 inches of lateral room on the 16x6.5 with 205 55... It would be close to flush, just dont slam the car, and be easy over bumps you should be fine

See, that's the problem. With rears that were 6 mm closer to the fender, they rubbed, and not when flooring it around corners either. :-( I know 225's on stock 16" wheels will rub, not sure about 215's.

If I were to upgrade to 17" BBS STi wheels, I think I'd have to roll the living poo out of the fenders in the back to get them to fit, I'd run 225 width tires.

Not always true. Weight and the total diameter of the tire + wheel come into play.

Yeah, a 205 40R17 tire is smaller than 205 60R15 (stock).

I'd probably run 225 45R17 (slightly larger than stock). But then, I'm about to start on a block swap project, so a little less acceleration won't be a problem, since I'll have a huge net increase in acceleration.

i was running 185/55r14s and my 215/45zr17s are the same height as the stockers. width is another story. i now run 215/45zr17's on my 06 wrx rims
