so my inner CV boot tore and was throwing grease every where. i changed it the other day(00 LGT) and put everything back. heres what i did exactly. punched out the pin, took off axle nut, unbolted sway bar link, unbolted A-arm from ball joint, took out axle and lined up pin, slid axle in hub, bolted up A-arm than axle nut than sway bar.

now whenever my car is in drive or reverse or any gear the car vibrates. it NEVER did this before. i have no idea what it can be. idle is around 700-750 w/ ODBII.

anyone have ANY type of clue what it can be? ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

vibrates while driving or vibrates while sitting there idling?

Is this an 4EAT? Or a manual 5spd?

was this a new/rebuilt or a used CV?

I'm pretty confident that it has nothing to do with the new axle, especially since it doesn't change how the car drives. Chances are you just notice it now since you've changed something.

I'm with Shaz on this......the axles are one of those parts where, if your car is on a lift or such, you can see every part you touched of it installed. It's possible the buzz/knock was already there telling you you needed to replace your boots and droned out the sounds you now hear.

(btw..i'll probably throw an entry in the drunk thread...although, damnit! my typing is usually fine no matter how muhc i've drank....ty, backspace!)

Especially on the older cars...Mines a 2nd gen.....You're going to have to start replacing bushings , etc that are part of a 10yr, 100mi+ replacement program....Depending on where you live, some of these parts can go fairly quick and will require some attention.

thats another thing. im getting sick of taking care of the car when its only worth 4-5K. with all the performance mods, that gets me no where. i am actually considering getting like an 02-05 WRX so the power that im looking for it there. its newer, less miles. i just have to convince my dad to let me.

what do you think would be better, sell the car stock than sell all the exhaust, intake, suspension. everything i have done basically. or try to sell the car for 1000-1500$ more but with all the mods?

how much would you pay for my car. 00 LGT limited. fair condition 120K miles. i have headers, test pipe, WRX catback, pulley, TB spacer, DIY intake, intake manifold spacers, H&R springs, front sway bar endlinks.

A 00GT with 120k is not worth 4-5k unless it's totally beaten.

That's more the price for a 97 GT w/ 120k.

im just going by kelly blue book. what do you guys think the value of the car is? it has been in 1 small accident.

$7-8k with or without mods. Mods don't add value.

so my best bet is to sell all my mods and go back to stock than sell the car?

Sure - if you think you can make enough money to justify the time taking off the mods. I probably wouldn't bother, unless I was going to get another Subaru.

Having the same issue. replaced the LF axle, hub/bearing and started getting a bad vibration at idle idle in any gear other than P and N. it now has gotten progressively worse. turn the wheel left or right and the vibration stops. i checked everything at work with the car on the lift. everything is tight, motor mounts look fine.

its '97 legacy gt wagon. auto w 217k.

This is rather common with the 4EAT and non OEM axles from my understanding. Happened to me.

Something to do with the way they fit? I have no idea. But mine has been gone lately. It's rather odd.

Yup +1 on problems with NON OEM axles for some reason.

I believe it was an oem axle that i got from dead91silvia.

With new axles the joints will be stiffer till they get some wear maybe causing this. I did both at the same time when I did mine also. Mine is barely noticeable prob even better since I did new mounts and I hate NVH. My glove box does not vibrate anymore while stopped in drive like it use to.
My first sentence would also explain why Baddog had his vibration go away.

I had a new non OEM axle installed on the passenger CV boot (I want to find the engineer who thought putting a RUBBER CV boot under the cat was a good packaging idea...) for the first 2000 miles I had a medium vibration at around 75-80 mph. Now after a few oil change intervals the vibration has gone down significantly.
