Hi,
I have a Problem only a international Legacy forum can solve ;)
The Gearbox of my MY99 Legacy BE/BH (Type BH9, 2.5 Liter Station Wagon with Manual Geabox) has a problem: when I drive in the 5th gear the gear jumps out sometimes (e.g. when rolling along with cruise control).
So I have to reopair the gearbox. I looked at the Workshop Manual and found out that the Liberty (Australian model of the Legacy) has a different transmission ratio:
- the axle ration is "shorter" (I think the ratio used in the Outback)
- in contrast, the 5th gear is "longer" (6% longer)
My plan is to get a used "Australian" gearbox, swap the axle differential and use the combination "long 5th gear with normal axle diff" to have a quiet long transmisstion ration for the german Autobahn
My Problem: I have no Idea where to get a Liberty Gearbox (except for eBay, but there are currently no BH9 Gearboxes available).
Maybe a SL-I Member from Down Under can give me a hint?
Regards,
Gerd
