1995 Legacy steering wheels shakes at 60+

When i go faster than 60mph the steering wheel starts shaking, what would cause this? I just had new tires put on it and im sure they balanced them.

if its the steering wheel, then it could be a poor balancing job on one of the front wheels. or else some other little peice of your front suspension is loose. but if i just showed up with when u put on the new tires, im sure its a balancing issue.

No, it did the same thing before i put the new tires on.

Alignment then, or wheels are out of round, or bad suspension bushings...

You should have said in the first post that the steering wheel shook PRIOR to having the wheels balanced.

Alignments cause pulls. Vibrations/shakes are caused by wheels and tires.

Does it suddenly appear at 60? Is it always there over 60?

It seems to come and go at different speeds so i think its a balancing issue.

A balancing issue you will feel at high speeds. It could be sothing loose on your front end too. You should have someone check it for you.

Well it happens at different speeds over 55. I checked all the bushing and tie-rod ends and they all seem fine.

Maybe one of the wheels is bent or out of balance.

i have this exact same issue and i suspect that my wheels are not balanced.

I was having this problem and it was one of my innner tierod ends. But it very well could be out of balance too.

Did they use the tap-on weights along the inner and outer lip of the wheel or the sticky strips just in the center or some combination?

Single sticky strips allow for quick balancing but with some suspension designs (strut in particular) the balancing will only be good for a few hundred miles in some cases.

My 97 legacy wagon does the same thing, except that once in a while I THINK I feel it at low speed too. I suspect that I have a broken, or shifting belt in one of the tires, but, I just haven't gotten around to taking it to a Firestone dealer.
