My ej22 has 76k on it. Is it safe to switch to synthetic?

Stick with synthetic until you're at 120K, then I'd switch over to high milage oil. So, yes, go ahead and switch.

Is this something thats easy to do? Or should i have the subi dealer do it? How much would it cost for the dealer to do it?

Do you know which seal? I'd find a little mom and pop subie place to do it, I got my 4 cam seals, front main seal, and timing belt done for less than the local dealership charges just for doing the timing belt!

I don't want you running away with the idea that synthetic oil is going to make you lose oil at dangerous rates, but yes, it will make the seals puke a little.

Sarra, I'm not sure why you'd want to switch back to high mileage oil, synthetic resists burnoff too, that's really the only advantage to high mileage non synthetic oils.

Zach- have you had the timing belt done once already? Or are you having it done soon? I would wait until you get it done to do the seals, and a couple oil changes after that, I would switch over to synthetic after the seals have set properly.

The timing belt was done by the subi dealer at 60k.

If you're not too worried about a little oil leakage, switch over to synthetic and have the seals done at 120k.

It won't harm anything as long as you keep an eye on the oil level and change your oil at the right intervals (5,000 miles - 7500 miles is about right for synth).

Every couple days i notice alittle drop on the garage floor, so its not bad.

Wow, that's not a leak... Yeah, just throw synthetic in there.

Bah, that's nothing. Go for it.
