Hey everyone, I just joined the boards a week or two ago, but have been reading it for almost 2 months now. I'm not new to the Subaru community however, as I've been with RS25 for a while now.

I've been craving a GC8 as my first car [Subaru's are my life :-( ], but I've been the owner of a White 97 2.5GT since December and have been very happy with it...DESPITE ridiculous amounts of problems.

lol, Rear Brakes line blew a week into owning it
Fuel Filler Pipe corroded through and leaked any gas over 1/4 tank
Leaking....Header? :-?

anyways...the first two are taken care of and the car is running like a champ.

I'll update this post with pictures and such once I get a break from work  Anyone in the Boston area btw?

Welcome dude... the problems sound like corrosion issues... This spring I would set aside a weekend to get under the car and degrease and derust anything and hit it with a rust inhibitor...

In the winter try to get some carwash under the car at least once every two weeks... Dislodging old salt and ice is key to keeping the car fresh.

Fortunately these cars don't have nearly as many exposed areas as similar (or newer) domestics.

But rust is a PITA...and it will come back if it's in too deep.

The GC8s are nice, light cars. But the modified GT has that unique look about it when it sits next to a bunch of GC's...

Welcome. I had the same problem with my Filler neck, but I lost 3/4 of a tank of gas. :-(.

Welcome! Maybe snag a borla (replica) header for your problem there.

Rust like you wouldn't believe, I got the car on a lead that I wouldn't ever get a chance at something for the price again.

I have the car for co-op at my school so I needed something that wouldn't let me die [have an '83 Rx-7 at home]. There was little surface rust on the wheel well's and I was convinced it was a keeper.

Once the break lines blew, we lifted the car to see rusted and corroded everything in the rear. Also, if your rear break lines ever go, realize that the entire rear end has to be dropped to get at it because it is routed over the gas tank. =[ I avoided this by replacing and rerouting around the tank.

The rear end is in ok shape, but nothing was dropped out because there was a fear something would sheer or crack and break. I was hoping that by spring time, with proper car over the winter season, I could bring it to ECS performance in MA and they could assist me in some kind of suspension/drivetrain revamping.

If it's that bad, I'd junk it, unless the damage is to replaceable parts - like control arms etc. If it's frame, it's junk.

From the inspection, everything that looked bad was replaceable.
