Again, will 225 fit without rubbing too bad?

I found a place to get my favorite set of tires in 225/50R16 for uber cheap, but I need to know if they'll rub too much. They're so cheap I may get them and if they rub, sell them on craigslist for more than I spent on them.

If rolling fenders helps, I'm more than willing to do so!

I got a set of 195/65R15 tires for my ghetto beatup SS wheels, they are awesome! Blizzaks, and they ride a LOT better than my summer tires. Though, cornering is a bit iffy, so much sidewall flex!

i've got 225.45.17's and I'm lowered and I only rubbed once....when I had ~300 lbs of architectural shingles in the trunk. And I was only rubbing when cornering.

newb question:

up until a lil while ago i didnt know what exactly the 225 stood for. read up on it online and am only slightly sure of it is: section width? the explanation they had for it wasnt very helpful. im in the process of researching for new tires for my ride and want to know what would be the benefit of getting the 225 over the 205.

a tire usually has markings like this 205/55/r16

205 is the width of the tire in milimeters. 55 is the ratio between the height of the sidewall and the width of the tire. r stands for radial, and 16 is the size of the rim the tire fits on in inches

oh that makes more sense. so would a wider or skinnier tire be better in the snow?

On stock 16" wheels, the rears rubbed against the strut mount and melted off a nice chunk of my inside tread block. Throwing a 3mm spacer helps take them off of the strut, but then you're definitely looking at doing some serious fender rolling in the back. You'll have to roll the fronts too probably, but no spacer necessary. It's a tight fit, especially if the tire you're using is somewhat large for the size (like my Kumho MXs).

I've got a lot of rub on my 225 on the passenger rear. I can feel and hear it catching on the rear strut whenever theres somebody else in the car or I turn sharply. If anybody else has experienced this on the stock 16s, did moving down to a 205 help or should I go lower?

Is your suspension bent or something? 205's are stock, unless you have an L or LS, then 195's are stock. I doubt you would have any problem with 205...

heh, could be. I went to cinci to finish up the title stuff tuesday and the tire somehow folded slightly under itself so I had to get a rebalance. When I did they told me that my rim is bent, so it seems like somebody may have hit something at some point before I got the car. Here I am hoping it's nothing too crazy to fix. Hopefully I can just replace the rim and put new tires on it and it'll help... but who the hell knows. it looks like the screws from the top of the strut come down pretty far and are awefully close to the tire sides, so if there's any give in that strut it seems like its very possible that that's whats causing my tire grind.

I switched to a set of 205/55/16s today and the rubbing is gone. I'd imagine with spacers it would fit.

It would still be very tight, especially on the wagons. I put a 3mm spacer in there and it started to rub on the fender instead.

225/50/16 didnt fit on my bd with the stock 16 spokes unless you like modifying your rear struts. and dont rub that bad after.

one thing I noticed is that the strut bolts come down pretty damn far. Maybe that's what he's saying.

Although you wont see me out there hacking away at anything like that unless it's for fun and I have a box of replacements a few feet away.

Is anyone running the BG5 JDM rims? I was going to buy a nice set of those and use 215/50/17 tires on a BK. I looked at the backsapcing guide, just trying to get a real world feel. They will be paired with TEIN Flex coilovers in May, once the snow is gone. This will be with minimal drop in height, maybe 1.5 max in front, and 1 in the rear. Thanks for the help.
