overheating 99 2.5 head?

so i just swapped a 99 EJ2.5 into my 95 leg with a 5sp manual.
it sits at perfect temp in the driveway but when driven for about 15 mins (after allowing it to warm up in garage) it spikes up sharply to about 232 degrees.
i replaced the thermistat just incase cause its only 8 bucks but that obviously isnt the case.
i monitored it with a diagnostic computer and it runs perfectly untill driven and strain is put on the engine. im not driving heavily im shifting pretty low as the clutch isnt broken in....

the engine is out of a 99 legacy sus that we thought had blown a headgasket. we got a new motor for that car (t-boned 97gt) and i put all new seals in the 99motor and put it in my 95.

HELP!! i really hope its not a cracked block or head but i cant think of anything else!!! :cry:

yeah thats what my dad and i were thinking..
i bought dye for the coolant and oil so i can figureout whats toast :cry:

i have my 95 2.2 sohc engine. are there any interchangable parts that i could combine the two?

Heads could be warped.

How old is the waterpump? I didn't replace mine when I did the timing belt... Now it's leaking 12k later...

we replaced the water pump while the motor was still in the sus but idk how long ago that was..

and we checked the heads the way our book tells us too and they seemed fine..
that is the best way to check heads? we had a straight edge and a feeler gauge.

Not trying to steal your thread but i have the same problem.

The only addition i have is that my heat goes in and out. When the engine over heats my over flow tank gets filled and then it spills out of that, so i assume that is where i am losing my raditator fluid.

Would replacing the thermostat will fix the problem? Dose the thermostat have a metal haning ball off the bottom of it?

If the heads are toast, but the block is good, you could throw your 2.2 heads on it. You'd probably want to run premium then, and getting timing belt stuff to work might be a bitch.

Well, it probably wouldn't be a problem, you've got both motors, so nvm.

I don't think so, you will have to modify a gasket so the coolant passages aren't obstructed, though. Only thing you'll have to do.

I replaced my thermostat and i had the same problems. But then i decided to run my car with out the thermostat. Now all the problems have gone away. However i see bubbles coming out of the tube in my overflow tank as it idles so I'm thinking blown HG, warped heads or both.

yep. i did that to mine too and its exactly the same.... but i already put in brand new headgaskets :-(

and what type of thermostat do you have it it?

cuz i have one with a dangling ball on it then i have another one that is shorter but with out the dangling ball

im not so sure what your talking about when you say "dangling ball" lol
i got mine from carquest they looked up what the car needed and i trusted them

and no the headgaskets definitely didnt fix the problem as the car is sitting in the driveway watching our other 2 legacy's come and go :oops:

we checked for warp before putting it back together. so idk
i reused the head bolts though would that be an issue? i heard that when you take heads off an engine you have to use new headbolts?
or a cracked head
