From the readings on the forum the euro/aussie headlights have pretty good light output too.

Any opinions?

My JDMs give such good light cutoff. Plus, with separate hi/low beams, it gives you a chance to put 100watt high bulbs in. Plus it looks better. I've been very happy with the light output in mine, and it's flexible enough to aim properly so you're not blinding everyone.

Personally I think the EDM lights are cleaner looking. My .02

I had the EDM's, I liked them. I may get them again and just use an HID kit. That EDM Legacy is beautiful.

That just makes the decision so much harder...

I'm planning on going HID lowbeam so I mite go with EDM since JDM mite be a bit difficult.

Hey Reason,

The before and after is a huge difference...

Could it be the PIAA Xtreme White H4 Headlights you used on the EDM headlights?

woah, i thought i was the only one who like the edm lights, i dont realy like the projectors at all.

Coming from my perspective... My headlights are yellow, foggy pitted, and cracked. I am in the market ( once Dubyas money comes) for some new lights.
Where do you get the EDM lights, I never see them for sale. It looks like they are reflectors, halogen or HID? I really like the one piece lights, so JDM and EDM tie on that. I really like the cut off on the JDMs, but can the projectors be used with halogen until a good set of HIDs is acquired?

As long as they have pretty equal light output I would be at a tie. I would have to go EDM, just so I dont have to mess with RHD out put...

I would assume that I could find a decent d*R bulb somewhere for some HID lovin, but I dont know if it would be worth the extra cash?

OP, what do you hav in your EDM, halogen, or HID?

The headlights I had were Raybrig. I can't remember what one I got but if for some strange reason I don't do HID's I'll buy Raybrig bulbs again. My fogs may have been PIAA extreme in that pic. It was so long ago it slipped my mind.

Hey Reason,

Just wondering how you wired this bulb?

Reason

I installed blue LEDs bulbs I had laying around just to show the bulbs. I eventually had white LEDs in there.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

All I did was tap into the fog light wiring.

I have those on my JDMs - they're called 'city lights' and they're used similarly to those who put their parking lights on when driving around in darker situations.

Shane - do the EDMs take 194 style bulbs as well?

Reason

Yes the city lights are 194's, and as far as I know I bought mine from Japan.

JDM with HID projector retro > jdm stock > edm w/ plug n play kit > edm stock.

depends all on the roads that you drive. I drive very dark back roads. i needed HID lows/highs so i went with the FX35 projector, clear lens swap and phillips 85122 bulbs.

That white JDM legacy above is that an aftermarket from bumper?

HeresMyMind
02-13-2008, 06:54 AM
the jdm gt bumper is different. hence why u need to cut away at the stock us spec gt bumper to fit jdm fogs.

heres a pic of some low beam shots of jdm lights retro'd now tell me if u think us spec come anywhere close :-D

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/02/im3x1f-1.jpg

exposure was changed to show blue in cut off. they are brighter than they appear. those are the LOWS only. the same projector is bixenon and produces a high beam also.

I don't care about the JDM fogs I like the squareness of the JDM front bumper. but if it would require cutting the bumper beam or is hard to find then i would not bother.

There's really no such thing. As HeresMyMind mentioned, the JDM headlights have a bulb cover that's amber that makes the corner of the headlights look sort of Amber smoked, in certain lights.

Here are some examples:

So how are people dealing with the cutoff pattern when using JDM lights in the US? I have a set in my outback and the only thing I could find to do was just keep them aimed low. If there is a fix, I would love to know about it.

Some are swapping the projector housing, some are taking it apart and modifying the cutoff shield. As long as you have it apart, I don't see any reason not to upgrade and put some BMW or Acura HID projectors in there.

I don't have mine aimed super low, don't seem to be having problems with people flashing me, and I can see 10x better than with the stock lights, so I'm good for now.

If I were to do it (assuming I had a BD/BG of course  ) I would get the projectors and do a FX retro. BiXenon anyone?

don't the JDM lights have beam pattern characteristics made for right side drives?

Yes. Please go back to my first post in the thread. It's not something that you can fix without a projector swap, but it's definitely avoidable because the aiming system is very flexible.
