So, the Leggy finally died...bummer.

So, i went out and bought an 08 Impreza... now the question is.... How do i break the thing in?

I've heard different opinons, the dealer said drive it how i normally drive. Dad says treat it like a child... The user manual...says nothing.

SO, now i'm stuck.

Ideas?

Guys who build motors for racing drive it hard. But you have a stock car, so just drive it how you would everyday.

Actually, there is a recommended way to do it:

You don't baby it, you'll never set the seals right, and you don't beat on it, you'll shorten the life.

You have to rev it up with caution. No full throttle 6k rpm trips in the first 1000 miles. But do rev it up. Just don't dive in the throttle too much. I'd say keep it under 4k rpms, but go up to 4k for the first couple hundred miles, after that, just take occasional trips to the redline area. But again, no full throttle full rpm trips except in emergency.

So don't baby it, just drive it like you normally do with a few restrictions, and maybe (depending on your driving style) you add a few on ramps to your trip

Breaking in engines were for the 70's. It's all rumors and old wive's tales about most of the stuff for today's engines. We just bought an 08 Focus, and all it says in the manual for break in period is don't drive one consistent speed.

This is the recommended break in from Subaru for the 08 Impreza.
New Car 1,000 mile break-in period- keep RPMs under 4000 (manual transmissions), vary speeds highway and city driving, avoid hard starts/stops, warm up and cool down engine.

It's so brutal to not be able to beat on it like the old 94 Legacy =( ... I did have to rev her to 5k this afternoon to avoid getting smashed by a semi (don't ask, not fun). Scary thing is she's got a ton of pull... it almost scares me.

Cornering is amazing.

How did you justify not getting a WRX?

Yeah, that's crazy talk. Have you shopped around on insurance?

Did you kill a large group of people while driving or something?

That WAS shopping around (Canadian Direct was the 670$ quote) the insurance agency i was dealing with prior to this was the Co-Operators and they wanted 890 to insure a WRX and 540 to insure the 2.5i.

The Albertan insurance agencies really stick it to you until you're 25 because they seem to think "statistically" 16-25yr old males are crazy.

Possibly, but not when I've been living with my GF for 3 yrs ... worst i do is drift around a corner...

Oh well, life goes on right?

My guess is hes saying $670 per 6 months.

That was a monthly quote.... 670 a month, 12 months a year = 8040 for the whole year... Just wasn't worth it.

----------------------------------------

Reason:

I'm not special, I just ended up getting really lucky and walked into the building of a bank when they were having computer problems... up until that point they hadn't had a Tech... i fixed their stuff, walked away and 2 days later got called and asked if i wanted to Manage 8 Banks in Northern Alberta... and the choice was easy w/ the money they offered me.

here's a good one for ya...

I put all my stuff in...
Did everything to the T about my insurance history...

Subaru Impreza WRX... quote from Kanetix:

Royal & Sun Alliance

$7219

KTX Insurance Solutions
(Economical Mutual Insurance)

$7728

KTX Insurance Solutions
(AXA Pacific Insurance)

$9379

-------------------------------------

2.5i

Royal & Sun Alliance

$5857

KTX Insurance Solutions
(Economical Mutual Insurance)

$6277

KTX Insurance Solutions
(AXA Pacific Insurance)

$9043

And now, you can see why i went with the 2.5I instead of the WRX... atleast i still have the Subaru... vs. buying a SX2.0 or Neon or something douchy like that :D hahaha

Christ, I'm pretty sure that's more than my insurance, and I'm 18 with one accident (two points on the liscense).

Haha, i'm 20 with no accidents, no tickets, not even a parking ticket... and i can drive an ambulance or large truck...

And... my insurance rate w/ Canadian Direct ended up being 4000ish dollars a year i think (402.11x12 for anyone who cares)

Wiscon_Mark

Same here, no points, no accidents, etc, but I gotta say, I'm not getting raped like that on insurance. jeez. Mine's about 1200 a year...full comp.

... That's what Public Damages and Liability of 1,000,000$ cost me on the 94 Legacy...
