I just picked up a 2002 WRX front driver seat. How do I remove it from the rails and transplant it to my stock rails? Easy or hard?

Not sure, however I'm very curious as to how this is done too!

You shouldnt need to swap rails unless youre a tall guy and want to sit lower.

Where in Oregon are you? I can help ya on the weekends

yeppers.

Dave - we were talking about applying the STi seats to the lower Legacy rails so the seats don't sit so high.

I have never swapped rails but I imagine you just turn the seats over, unbolts the seats from the rails and swap them.

I cant see it being that hard of a job but since i never dont it I could be way off.

This definitely should be pursued, I have never really seen an answer to this, unless someone who has could shed some light. I'll see if I can acquire some Impreza seats cheap and maybe some sort of extra stock seat and experiment, but it may take a bit, I've just invested into some wheels so $ is a little tight.

IIRC, when i had my jdm wrx seats, I had looked into this and I thought they were welded.

If I hook up with Sarra we will check it out and take pics and document it.

I'm interested in sitting lower (6'6" = the suck) as well.

Also, this should be in the interior section.

Done!

Yeah, being 6'2", I'd like a lower seating position like I have in my Legacy. Definitely wouldn't want to sit higher.

I'm just north of the Cali border.

There aren't bolts just holding the seats on the rails, the rails are kinda built into the seats.

I was told there isn't any benefit (height reduction) to doing the swap, so I'm not gonna bother.

Ok so maybe I wont be helping you with the seats.....lol.....didn think you were that far away

If your really after a lower seat, I wouldn't think it'd be too hard at all to modify them. Little cutting here, a little welding there...I'm only 6ft, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Bride makes a some seats branded 'Low Maxx' (lower seating position), Stradia and something else, but they're $1200 a seat

I just want the stock seat positions back. :( Though, it's great having your head 2 inches below the headliner when offroad, you can really see where the tires are going.

Can you slide the seat off the rail and then slide the new seat on the stock rail?

Just trying to throw out ideas

The bottom of the WRX seat is a lot taller than that of the legacy. There's little difference between the rails as far as I can tell.

Other than one bolt, and a different way to attach the seatbelts the seats attach to the body identically.

I'm pretty sure you can remove the sliders on the seats and then there's 4 bolts that attach the rails to the seats. I'm not sure if they can be swapped though.

No, there's a stop preventing you from doing just that. I tried.

I think it's okay the way it is. I've driven it 4 times now and it's way more comfy than stock seats.

yeah, even though they are quite high their comfyness and ability to hold you in definitely more than make up for it.

Somewhere around here I posted up measurements of the WRX seat for anyone who wanted to see how they fit

Still makes me grumpy that the bolt that holds the sub in place under the seat doesn't match up.
