So when you say a few, you mean 40-70 horse power???
Exhaust, mid-pipe, headers, cam, snorkusectomy with K&N or similar higher flow air filter, and then if you lose weight (yourself or the car) its like gaining horsepower. I've heard every 10 pounds is the equivalent of 1 horsepower. So dropping a 100lbs off the car somewhere will yield a 10hp-ish increase.
Also, another way to increase acceleration is by changing out driveline components, like a lightweight fly wheel, lightweight pulleys, and light wheels.

There's no cheap easy way to do it.
Prolly the cheap/easiest would be to make a 'turbo kit' out of wrx takeoffs. Some sort of fuel tuning would be reccomended.
Why not provide a budget, your skill level, and preferences in power delivery?

Intake and exhaust is the place to start...it'll help peformance some, and gas mileage some also.

Scott is right, and unfortunately, there's no cheap way to get power out of an NA, plain and simple. The only way to go fast for a reasonable price is to go turbo. You've got a decent car already, and chances are, you're not gonna get into all this too hardcore, so I suggest start with simple mods that you can do yourself and can understand how they change your car. The obvious recommendations are for intake and exhaust. Those are the only realistic power mod I would recommend. From there, suspension mods would be the way to go. They change how your car drives, feels, and how you experience/react to it.
Just remember: Power is NOTHING without control.
