hey everyone firslt i jsut wanted to say hello and this seems to be a really good site to learn some new stuff, well today i just purchased my 96 legacy lsi wich i love except the automatic transmision newho i was wanting to upgrade it and was just wondering if neone could point me in a good general direction of some decent upgrades well i appriciate ne ideas thanks

What do you want to change? How much do you want to spend? What is your level of experience? We can help a lot more the more we know.

First thing is to change the oil, plugs, and wires.

Well... here's for stabbing in the dark,

First thing is to give it a little maintenance love. Change the diff fluid, brake fluid, the oil, i have no idea about auto tranny fluid, the spark plugs and wires (cheap ngk), oil filter, and air filter. Check how worn the brake pads are. If you notice a huge improvement, be a little worried.

a new set of speakers is the first 'modification' i do with any car. Even a horrible car is enjoyable with good tunes. Changing the headunit may or may not be just as important, i dont know in your case.

Steering rack bushings will really give the steering wheel a more sensitive feel. Takes an hour or 2 to install and costs 25$. They're great.

You can pull the snorkus (snorkusuctomy) out of the fender if you want more go-fast sound.

If you enjoy flinging the car around the turns, a 18mm rear swaybar will dial out some on throttle understeer, and help the car rotate. Unfortunately, an AT car can't control lift off oversteer like a MT car can, so don't go too big. This will also increase the cars tendency to spin.

It's my personal opinion that engine modifications are a waste of time and money on an ej22, the engine you and i have.

Some people seem to have good luck with a 'grounding kit.' You can spend 100$ for one on ebay, or you can make one yourself. Usually helps the engine run more smoothly, if it does anything.

Having a separate set of summer wheels and tires is pretty nice.


Beyond that, you'll have to figure out what you want to change.

ahh yes, the LSi... The car that I tried very hard to find with no luck. Those are a rare find, and ususally bring more money than the GT's. Maybe I'll find me one someday. Good luck with the car, keep us posted with the progress. Hit us up with anything you are unsure about.

PS, that is correct, the LSi models had the 2.5 in them. (atleast the later ones)

95 LSi didn't have the 2.5L, but later did, just to clear that up...

Unfortunately theres really not too much you can do to the 2.5 either, you have to spend a bit of coin to bring our car's power up to par. Stick with what Scott said for starters, maintainence first, brakes and suspension second, and get a stereo in there (at least a new headunit) so you can enjoy the ride even in traffic.

On the plus side, our subies are some of the faster "slow cars" out there... But normally you need a manual for that. Automatics drain too much power out of the car.

PWT- Autos get worse gas mileage, they give you less control, they're hundreds of pounds, and they're more expensive to replace. And people still get them... :smt017
