I'm a new subaru owner, and I would like to start to get to know the car in more detail.

does anyone know If iridium spark plugs work well on the 2.0R engine?

I do not even know what kind of spark plugs are fitted from factory, 1,3,4 electrodes?

I own an opel astra 2.2 for which I'm using iridium and they improved the throttle response, but the idle and cold starts are not as smooth.

which spark plugs would you recommend for the sl 2.0R engine?

thanks for the advice

Is the 2.0R turbo? If not, then I'd just stick with NGK's. I believe the subarus come with NGK or Denso's from the factory. With NGK you'd want the BKR6E's. 5's are one step hotter, and 7's are one step colder. 6's are your best bet if you don't have any upgrades yet.

Don't get any of the bosch multi tipped ones, they just don't work well in subarus. As a general rule of thumb, with japanese cars, get japanese plugs. German cars, german plugs. American cars, sell it and buy one of the others mentioned

The only 2.0 and R i know of is the EJ20R, which is Twin Turbo.

I used the NGK irridium in my legacy 2.2 non-turbo. They were far better than what I had on there, and when paired with their wires I noticed the same positives you mentioned. However, I did not notice problems with cold starts or Idle.

The 2.0 R engine is the same as the one sold in the UK, it is non turbo.
It's a shame it is not sold in the US , cause I'll have less upgrade parts available here in North America.

I'll stick with the current plugs for while then,

thanks

I'd go with NGK copper V-power plugs. Yeah, you have to change them out a little more often (~30,000 miles) but they spark the best. Copper is still the best conductor.
