My 2000 Legacy GT Limited.

Info page on Legacy Central (http://legacycentral.org/mylegacy.htm)
Legacy Central Gallery link (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/)

I purchased this car in 2004, after deciding that my 93 Touring Wagon was getting long in the tooth and had more problems than I wanted to deal with. I found a one-owner car with a lot of mods already done to it that I'd have done myself, for a very good price. It was also on the west coast, and even better, we met in Las Vegas to do the deal.

Pre-existing mods included:

TEIN HA coilovers
Rota Formel 17x7.5 in
rev. c/d subframe braces
Brembo front rotors and Axxis Ultimate pads.
Cobb SS brakelines
CUSCO front STB
STI engine/trans mounts
AMSOIL air filter
Borla headers
Kartboy SS and bushings
UOR underdrive pulley
Fujitsubo Legalis catback
various jumbled and non-connected audio system

It was an attractive car:

After purchasing it, I immediately put tint on it and began a long saga of heartache and ruined audio equipment. I've kinda given up on ICE, settling for some RF and Alpine speakers and an OE Subaru/Panasonic under-seat sub with the "stock" high-end audio.

WRX brakes and the CUSCO 18mm rear swaybar went on pretty soon, making things a bit nicer in the twisties. One trip to Bear Lake on the Utah/Idaho border proved to myself and my friends on cruisers that cars really do go a lot faster in corners than big, heavy metric bikes.

A Cobb CAI was another early addition to the modlist, and the single most impressive modification I've done to the car as of this writing. It revolutionized driving the car, period.

An early version of the first double-adjustable short-shifter replaced the Kartboy I'd been using.

During the winter of 2004/05, I started having overheating problems, and during the process of an aborted engine swap, I decided to drop some coin on Cobb/ACT/Exedy parts, going for a flywheel, clutch, Street Performer cams and a stock-sized but lightweight flywheel.

Later in the year I was contacted by SubieSport and had my car featured in the Readers Rides section, along with Phil (BACS5.2) in his ABM Sport Sedan:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/02/subiesport_700-1.jpg

A Random high-flow cat section was installed, thankfully not making the car much louder. This is probably due largely to the Fujitsubo Legalis exhaust. I think I'd get some more power with a different catback, but not much.

I found a set of B4 rear taillights from SL-i member andivic. It made a big difference, contrasting the B4 front grille.

In 2006, I decided to one-up my brake situation and get some 05 LGT front brakes. Later in the year I also decided that my Rotas needed to be turned into winter wheels, and that some 18s would be a nice touch. I found some gold P-WRC1 and really like the results.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/02/waxed02-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Showoff/BDO/)

Because I had a "spare" set of wheels, I decided to get some tires, and found some Hankook Ice Bear W300s in the perfect 225/45-17 size. I also noticed that one of my Rotas wasn't balanced, and repeated attempts at balancing it were unsuccessful. I attribute this to driving over a curb the year before. I later sold the three straight wheels. I found a really nice set of Rota SDRs to act as my winter wheel set:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/02/01_10_07_20009-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Showoff/SDR/)

Other items like a CUSCO rear STB, painted interior trim bits, a JDM B4 leather center console armrest and ebrake boot, and Redline shift boot were added here and there, spicing up the interior and helping handling.

In the spring of 2007 I stumbled upon an unsold SYMS rear spoiler from SPO, the same I'd seen on their SEMA GT sedan in 2000. It'd been sitting on the shelf for 6-7 years, just waiting for me to call.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/02/06_17_07_20034-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Showoff/SYMS/)

I added a Gruppe-S O2-sensor spacer after installing a used set of TWE equal-length headers in the spring. The headers really changed the sound of the car, and though it took me a while to get used to it, I really like the EL header sound on a Subaru.

I've made a few acquisitions and swaps in the winter, trading my P1s for some silver BBS STi wheels. I'm also downsizing my brakes back to the WRX size. This is all in a bid to cut weight from the car and regain some of the performance lost due to turning those heavy things.

I've also picked up some dress-up and lighting parts recently. A Prodrive shift knob and oilcap, JDM Legacy steering wheel, cleared headlights and HIDs, and possibly some more smaller parts in the near future.

The car still runs very strong with 130k miles on the odometer. I've had intermittent overheating problems, but dissimilar to past behaviors. I'm looking forward to putting my BFG g-Force KDW2s on the BBS wheels and getting the WRX setup back on the car and tackling some dry canyon roads.

Very informative write up on your car. I love the last pic with the Syms grill and JDM tails! Great job man!

I agree, the last pic with the SYMS rear spoiler and gold rims is "the business".
IMO, the spoiler should have been an OEM option for the car.

Please don't put me in a ride of the month against this car. I really can't take gettin my ass handed to me again, But aleast it would be a sedan instead of a fucking wagon.

Great car DLC.

What made you change the cams. were you having something else done or did you set out with that in mind.

pdawg: I put the cams in during the engine swap period. Once I decided to have the heads actually checked over, and figured that they'd be off the car, I decided that I could save the labor to do it otherwise and had them installed. Also, thanks for the confidence in the car as a ROTM candidate.

2.5GT: Which ones? The Formels or the SDRs? I like both, and still have the bent Formel at home as a trophy.

I'm going to update my first post with links to the LC Gallery, so you can see more pictures of the car if you'd like.

Thanks guys, especially for the nomination.

I've got some clear corners in the works, along with some other parts, so it'll be an even stronger contender in a month or so :)

The COBB CAI worked out well for you? Was it easy to install, and where did you get it? I am thinking about going this route. Was there a difference in power and response as well as sound?

Why did you go with the EL header insted of the UL header? Headers might be one of my next steps, so I am just looking for advice.

My write-up on the CAI install and impressions (http://legacycentral.org/library/cobb/cai.htm)

I got the Cobb from Cobb, really, at Cobb. They're an hour away. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore, as far as I know, but they're still on the used market.

I got mine when there was only an UOR pulley, Borla headers and a catback on the car, for performance, and it was a significant upgrade in response, power and all things that a mod should do, including make more noise. I had benchmarked the car before the upgrade, several times, on the same stretch of road from a stop. Post-CAI install it was at least two carlengths quicker to that same point (at which I reached 60mph).

I got the TWEs because my Borlas were cracked, I found a super deal on them used, and I knew they'd give me a bit more power. Wasn't sure about the sound, but after driving around this afternoon with the windows cracked, I've no regrets.

This car is SWEET! I have always had plans to road trip and steal this out of his driveway.

DLC, have you ever driven this car to Boise? I was thinking about it the other day and I remember seeing a white legacy in boise that was lowered and was all sorts of sweet but yet I have never seen it again.

sansMYSTi: I would keep an eye out on RS25.com. That seems to be where most used COBB CAI intakes pop up.

The BFG KDW-2s are a bit noisy, but far better than the old Yokohamas I had on my TW. The wheels honestly look a bit plain, especially when I think of them compared to my P1s, but I'm kinda OK with that.

The slightly-worn KDWs and wheels are a light combo though, at under 40lbs for the set:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/03/03_25_08_20007-1.jpg

Perhaps this coming winter I'll powdercoat them a dark bronze color or something to that effect.

New, smaller front brakes are back on:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/05/05_11_08_20014-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Mods/brakes/WRX_two/)

I like the feel of the WRX/RS calipers better than the considerably larger LGT ones. The rotors are also about 1/2 the weight, which makes turning them and stopping them easier, and also lowers the unsprung weight significantly, so my suspension is a lot happier.

I also repainted my grille, which had been suffering from Chrome Leprosy. Satin Black Krylon Plastic spraypaint, after a good scuffing and some sanding:

(click for gallery)
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/05/05_13_08_20006-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Mods/Body/B4Grille/B4_grille_repaint/)

I'm just waiting for a week to put another few coats on it, after it has hardened, and for a friend to repaint the "B4" badge that goes on the right side of the grille. I dig it.

I had a cut in the sidewall of my Ice Bear W300s, so I went looking for a used set of snow/ice tires and found these:

Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 235/45-17 on 17x7.5" +53 Rota SDRs

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/11/1227632398098-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Mods/wheels_tires/WS-50/)

I was a bit concerned about the extra 10mm of width, and the extra height that would accompany it, but after a test drive with one tire on the front, I took the used set for a very fair price. So far they've been a very good tire in the cold, dry weather. We'll see how they go when the "real" winter arrives.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/11/1227576483505-1.jpg (http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/DLC/00GT/Mods/wheels_tires/WS-50/)

A tiny bit of rubbing when the wheels are turned and I'm going over driveways and with articulation, but otherwise not rubbing when driving straight. Plenty of strut clearance also, which is probably a result of the wheel offset.

peugoby

I have since sold this car, though it's in the process of being resurrected, though with many of the unique parts not on it anymore.

Thanks for the comments, and I hope to show what the new owner has done with it in the future.
